Energy Policy Inventory

A snapshot of global energy policies tracking over 5 000 policies in 50 G20 and IEA Family countries

Overview

The Energy Policy Inventory aims at mapping key energy policies around the globe, compiling over 50 key policy types from more than 50 countries, and catalogues over 5 000 energy policies to provide a clear snapshot of actions and state of play detailed by sector.

It notably includes:

  • Regulations, such as Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS), standards, pricing instruments and plans to phase out a certain technology.
  • Government spending, which build on the annual collection of the IEA’s Government Energy Spending Tracker, and cover clean energy investment support along with consumer short-term energy affordability measures.
  • Trade policies, such as tariffs and non-tariffs measures, as well as Free Trade Agreements (FTA) that include clean energy-related technologies in their terms.

The types of policies listed in this report do not entail the full spectrum and complexity of each country's policy framework. Rather, it aims at providing general trends over key national/federal and international policy metrics commonly shared between IEA and G20 member countries.
