Background information
Fifty years on from the founding of the IEA amid the 1970s oil shock, the IEA 2024 Ministerial Meeting is milestone event offering the opportunity to reflect on how the global energy system has changed and how to tackle the energy and climate challenges the world faces today and in the coming decades.
Our 50th Anniversary Opening Plenary will include two sessions, the first examining how policy makers can deliver orderly clean energy transitions on the path to net zero emissions by 2050. The discussion will cover the importance of placing inclusivity and fairness at the heart of clean energy policies as well as the tools available to governments to address these issues. The second plenary session focuses on the role of international cooperation to achieve global energy and climate commitments. The panel will discuss how countries can work together to scale up investments in clean energy technologies and put the world on track to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C.
