On Friday, May 26, 2017, on the territory of the children's health camp “Young Metro Builder” in Balabanovo (Kaluga Region), the opening of a restored monument to the fallen metro builders during the Great Patriotic War took place - 53 heroes of the Soviet Union, whose names are inscribed in gold letters on the memorial plaque.
The solemn tone of the opening ceremony was set by the servicemen of the Kantemirovskaya Guards Tank Division, who, accompanied by a brass band, carried the banner of the Moscow Metro Construction along the central alley.
General Director of Mosmetrostroy JSC Sergei Zhukov, before cutting the red ribbon, noted that “who remembers the past has a future” and thanked everyone present for their active participation in the reconstruction of the monument, which was completed in a short time.
Due to the obsolescence of most buildings, water supply, heating and sewerage systems, in 2011 a decision was made to close it. Metro builders began large-scale reconstruction in early autumn 2016. During this time, three of the nine buildings and the medical building were completely renovated. Construction work is in full swing to restore the remaining buildings, the canteen, and sports grounds for team sports.
