Scarlet carnations for heroes

The weather on May 8 presented an unpleasant surprise. However, strong winds, freezing rain and snow did not prevent the friendly formation of the trade union delegation of the Moscow Metro Construction, led by the Chairman of the Trade Union Terkom Sergei Steshenko, from taking part in the 50th anniversary ceremony of laying flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Kremlin wall.

On this solemn day we witnessed an unusual performance - a re-enactment of the events of 1967. Before our eyes, military personnel of the Presidential Regiment in the 1956 uniform, during the maintenance of the gas supply system to the Eternal Flame, using a historical torch, transferred the flame to the armor of an infantry fighting vehicle, and then returned it to its place.

To the sounds of the famous song from the legendary film “Officers” performed by People’s Artist of the USSR Vasily Semyonovich Lanovoy, military personnel installed three large wreaths of bright red flowers at the Eternal Flame. And how many scarlet carnations lay at the foot of the monument! One after another, in an endless stream, people walked to the memorial to bow to the memory of those killed during the Great Patriotic War. Among them were my colleagues, members of the Council of Young Specialists Tatyana Susanova, Olga Kuleshova, Vladislav Semenikhin.

Every year the events of that terrible war recede further and further into the past. Generations change. But memory is timeless. We will remember the feat of the heroes who defended the country from the Nazi invaders and gave us a peaceful sky above our heads.
