On the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day, the Council of Veterans of the Moscow Metrostroy, together with Afghanmetrostroy, took an active part in citywide events to mark the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan and the celebration of Defender of the Fatherland Day, and also laid flowers at the memorials to internationalist soldiers in Perovo and Mitino.

The spontaneous rally brought together veterans, representatives of public associations and ordinary Muscovites.

The speakers expressed deep gratitude to the “Afghans” for their perseverance. “Your feat will forever remain in the history of our country and in the hearts of future generations,” they assured. Participants of the event noted that today the exploits of veterans serve as a moral guide for the participants of the Northern Military District.

“It’s been 37 years since our troops left Afghanistan. This date is not just a number on the calendar, it is important for all of us. Those who served there and those who worked nearby did their job honestly, defending our country. They are a real example for today’s guys who serve Russia. After all, what could be better than seeing how veterans who have gone through trials teach us by their example to be true patriots,” emphasized Boris Prigoda, Chairman of the Mosmetrostroy Veterans Council.

The finale of the event was a memorable concert in honor of the day of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan at the Mossovet Theater.
