The final competition of the track and field season in Moscow was the “My Capital” half marathon, which took place on October 15 on Vorobyovy Gory. Three metro construction workers took part in it.
The looped marathon route, 21.1 kilometers long, began and ended on University Square near Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov.
Fans of long distance running were unlucky with the weather. At a temperature of about four to five degrees Celsius, the rain almost never stopped. And in such very uncomfortable conditions, 3 thousand people successfully covered a considerable distance. Including metro builders.
The best result among our runners was shown by SMU-5 sports instructor and social activist Nikolai Malkov - he covered more than 20 kilometers in 1 hour 20 minutes and 56 seconds. Veteran of TO-6 and Metrostroy sport Andrei Zemtsov, even in the first quarter of the journey, felt that he had not completely recovered from the September marathon. He had to noticeably slow down. The result at the finish line was 1 hour 46 minutes 28 seconds. Stepan Sadovikov from SMU-8, who is steadily gaining competitive experience, lost to Zemtsov only three minutes this time.
Hot buckwheat porridge awaited all athletes at the finish line, and they were also awarded commemorative medals “For Commitment to Running.”
Stepan Sadovikov answered the question about his impressions of such a day off simply:
- The rain, of course, spoiled the mood. And the organizers didn’t think everything through as it should. But still, running around Moscow like this was better than lying on the couch on Sunday.
