The next chess tournament took place in Mosmetrostroy. The competition was held on August 30 in the Administration building. Based on its results, the strongest players of the company were identified in order to then form a team from them.
The competition was held in the format of a blitz tournament, when each of the athletes had five minutes to play the entire game. If the game does not end with checkmate, then the one who runs out of the allotted time limit first loses.
The tournament lasted from 18:30 to 21:00. The game was played simultaneously on five boards. In such short-lived competitions, games usually begin with a series of quick moves - playing classical openings. But at some point, the most prepared or courageous chess player makes an unconventional move, and the opponent has to think, losing precious seconds. Closer to the endgame, when there are already few pieces on the board, the pace of the game increases again. These moments of meetings are the most spectacular.
Egor Shapiro from UMM caused a lot of problems to the tournament participants. He defeated everyone except one chess player - newcomer Alexander Skvortsov, who played for SMU-4. This player, who became a first-class player while still in school, lost only to the most experienced athlete, TO-6 veteran Anatoly Vasilyevich Zhigarev.
As a result, Skvortsov and Shapiro scored 10 points out of 11 possible, Zhigarev had one less. Places from 4th to 7th were taken by: Sergey Saratov (MMS-International), Eduard Escalera-Pozdnyakov (UMM), Sultan Dzhuspekov (SMS) and Andrey Tovkach (KSUM).
