The “Young Metro Builder” health camp resumed work on June 1. In the anniversary year for the organization, the legendary recreation center opened after a major renovation. Now both children of metro construction workers and anyone else will be able to spend their holidays in the famous camp.
“Young Metro Builder” is located in the Kaluga region, in the forest, not far from the Istya River. Thanks to this, the camp has clean air and silence, which urban children especially need. Metro workers realized this back in 1944. Then the eventful history of the famous recreation center began.
They decided to place it on the territory of the Pobeda state farm, where the organization had a subsidiary farm. The camp, called “Berezki,” opened in June 1945. The first vacationers lived in long wooden barracks and soldiers' tents made of tarpaulin.
Gradually, the territory was improved, cottages and utility buildings were erected, and rooms for study groups were equipped. There was also a bakery here, which was famous throughout the area. Since 1960, family races began to be organized at Berezki between summer seasons.
In 1970, the camp celebrated its quarter-century anniversary and received a new name - “Young Metro Builder”. At the same time, the first serious reconstruction began. After it, it became possible to send children to camp and during the winter holidays. By 2005, on its territory there were eight two-story brick buildings, a catering unit, a medical isolation ward, a summer club and library, a computer room and a cinema, and a House of Children's Creativity.
In 2011, “Young Metro Builder” was closed. Four years later, the organization decided to revive it, carry out a major overhaul of the buildings and improve the territory. In 2016, a monument to 53 heroes of the Soviet Union was erected in the camp. Later, a fountain appeared in the central square.
By the beginning of 2019, subsidiary farming was restored at the recreation center: warehouses, storage for vegetables, an aviary for birds and a stable were built. In July of the same year, the Summer Spartakiad was held, several generations of metro construction workers took part in it. Many of them went to the camp as children.
