The first photo from 1935 shows the lobby of the Sokolniki station on the Sokolnicheskaya Line. At that time, the entrance to the metro was decorated with two figures of athletes - a discus thrower and a volleyball player, made according to sketches by Matvey Manizer.

Unfortunately, the material from which the sculptures were made turned out to be short-lived. In the 1940s (photo No. 2), floor lamps were installed on granite ledges, which were dismantled in the 1950s.

In 2018, the historical appearance of the station lobby was returned (photo No. 3). The statues of athletes again took their places on the granite ledges of the pylons of the entrance arch to the metro.
In addition, at the same time, a unique stained glass window made of glass and metal with the image of a red star was recreated on the roof. For more than half a century it was hidden from the eyes of Muscovites.
By the way, it was from the Sokolniki station that the first train with passengers in the history of the Moscow metro departed on May 15, 1935. In 2021, a transfer to the Big Circle Line will be organized from the station.
