How they built an infectious disease center in new Moscow

Like 75 years ago, in difficult days for the country and the capital, metro builders are again on the front line. Their invaluable experience in constructing complex facilities with high quality and in a short time was useful in the construction of a medical center.

A month ago, in the area of the Voronovskoye settlement in New Moscow there was an open field. Now the area has changed dramatically. Literally before our eyes, the buildings of the infectious diseases hospital grew.

The metropolitan government involved Mosmetrostroy, among other organizations, in the implementation of this project, which Moscow and the region need more than ever. We are working proactively in the fight against the coronavirus infection that is sweeping the world – COVID-19.

– We were entrusted with the construction of eight buildings. Block A has five buildings, block B has three buildings. Also equipping five checkpoints with engineering systems. 1,250 builders and 47 engineering and technical specialists were involved. The work was carried out around the clock, said Oleg Melnikov, Deputy General Director of Mosmetrostroy JSC, who oversees construction in New Moscow.

The infection center was built from prefabricated structures. The buildings consist of steel trusses lined with sandwich panels on the walls and roof. Partitions, doors, windows were installed inside, floors and ceilings were finished, and all engineering communications and equipment were installed. The specifics of the construction of a medical institution imply strict rules for the construction and delivery of buildings.

The Moscow government has set the shortest possible readiness period for the infection center. The objects entrusted to Mosmetrostroy were erected according to schedule. This fact was highly appreciated by the Center Construction Headquarters to General Director Sergei Zhukov.

To build an infectious disease center in New Moscow, employees of Mosmetrostroy subsidiaries were involved: SMU-1, SMU-6, SMU-8, SMU-12, SMU-24, SMU-25, TO-6, Tunnel-2001, MMS International and USR.

Specialists from MIP-Stroy No. 1, IBT, DSK-1, PIK, Krost and MISK worked side by side with the Mosmetrostroy workers. The general contractor of the infectious disease center was the city holding Mosinzhproekt.

The construction site was chosen behind the “concrete” ring along the Kaluga direction in the area of the village of Golokhvastovo. The nearest residential buildings are located 250 meters away. The hospital has a capacity of 656 beds. The project involved the construction of 50 one-story buildings and 14 sections of dormitories with 2-3 floors. The center is equipped with modern medical equipment, its own oxygen station and treatment facilities.
