First of the Magnificent Seven

On January 1, 2018, Avtozavodskaya celebrated its anniversary - the station was opened 75 years ago.

As you know, the Great Patriotic War did not cancel the construction of the Moscow metro. At the end of the difficult year of 1941, it only stopped for about two months. Work resumed after the start of the offensive of our troops near Moscow. And already on January 1, 1943, a new station was opened on the Zamoskvoretskaya metro line - “Stalin Plant” (for more than sixty years it has been known as “Avtozavodskaya”).

The authors of 52 projects took part in the competition for the best architectural solution. Alexey Dushkin's proposal won. His ideas were implemented by the builders of Distance No. 3 (the future of SMU-8). At first they were led by Alexander Chesnokov, until he was appointed deputy head of Mosmetrostroy. And A. Filippov brought it to launch.

A series of seven wartime stations began with Avtozavodskaya. Each of them was built without any allowance for difficult times. The architects tried to maintain the course set from the first stage towards the best metro in the world.

The first photo shows the station in the 50s. At the same time, or rather in 1956, it was renamed.

The second card is the modern look of Avtozavodskaya.
