We tell the story of one of the seven stations built during the Great Patriotic War.
The Elektrozavodskaya station opened on May 15, 1944. This date coincided with another holiday - the ninth anniversary of the launch of the Moscow Metro. In the lobby, as at other stations of the third stage, they hung a commemorative plaque “Constructed during the days of the Great Patriotic War.”
The project was approved in 1939. The station received its name from the nearby Moscow Electric Plant named after Kuibyshev. Now this is a whole complex of enterprises, consisting of Elektrozavod, MELZ and ATE-1. In 1941, with the outbreak of war, construction was frozen, and it resumed only a year later. At this time, underground structures and tunnels were used as bomb shelters. The station was built by the team of Mine No. 7-8.
“Electrozavodskaya” is an object of cultural heritage of Russia of regional significance. On the pages of “Udarnik Metrostroy” dated May 16, 1944, the chief architect of Metrostroy, Mikhail Zelenin, called it an architectural monument of his era.
The pylon, three-span station lies at a depth of 31.5 meters. The design was carried out by architects Vladimir Shchuko, Vladimir Gelfreich, Igor Rozhin and Arkady Arkin.

2019 The general appearance of the station remains the same after 75 years.
The first thing that catches your eye in the middle hall of Elektrozavodskaya is the seemingly lace ceiling. This effect is created by 282 separately illuminated hemispherical caissons built into the vault. The emphasis on lighting is made to remind of the neighborhood with the Elektrozavod.
The vault corresponds to a floor of gray and black squares arranged in a checkerboard pattern. They are framed along the contour by a frieze in the form of yellow and black waves. Initially, the floor was marble, but during the reconstruction of 2007–2008 it was replaced with polished granite, preserving the original design.
On the monumental pylons of the station, lined with light marble, there are 12 high reliefs by Georgy Motovilov. They are united by a common theme: “Front and rear in the Great Patriotic War.” Initially there were 14 sculptures, but two of them were removed during the construction of the hermetic seal after the Second World War. At the end of the central hall there is a bas-relief in the form of banners with a medal, on which a portrait of Stalin was once placed. The image of the leader was removed during the debunking of the cult of personality.
The ground lobby is built in the shape of a hexagon with a flattened dome. Inside, on the walls there are bas-reliefs with portraits of the founders of electrical engineering. Outside, it is decorated with a niche with a bronze sculptural group “Metro builders in the face”, made by Matvey Manizer.
At the time of the opening, a large round chandelier with a red star in the center hung under the ceiling of the lobby. It contained fluorescent lamps - the pride of Elektrozavod. But later it was dismantled.
Now, very close to Elektrozavodskaya, metro builders are building Rubtsovskaya of the Big Circle Line. The existing station will be connected by a transfer to the BCL.
