Students of the FA-SAD architectural studio tried themselves as designers of metro stations, presenting their vision of interior decoration and functional solutions. We tell you how children see the future image of the capital's subway and where they can get acquainted with their projects

The FA-SAD studio, located in the Kurkino district, has become a second home for more than five hundred children from four to seventeen years old. It has existed for the sixteenth season, and its students enter not only leading architectural universities in Russia, but also foreign universities: in Holland, Milan, London

"FA-SAD" translates as "Fantastic Architecture and Design Studio". Indeed, studio students have plenty of imagination. Hidden behind the colored door is a small world, the inhabitants of which no longer see any other way for themselves other than to connect their lives with architecture. The cozy office is filled with all sorts of intricate projects. They lie in the corners, perched on the walls like a cardboard labyrinth.

For a year, studio students worked on the social project “Children Draw the Metro of the Future.” Its meaning is
to create a creative symbiosis between beginners and experienced architects. Children
with their fresh look and unconventional imagination, they give birth to new ideas, which they subsequently bring to life
professionals in accordance with standards and GOSTs. The idea belongs to designer Alexander Korotich and is dedicated to the anniversary of the Moscow Metro Construction. He
believes that children can help
create a convenient, functional and modern beautiful metro.

In the process, the mentors introduced the children to the history of the metro, talked about various specific moments during its construction: what kinds of stations, exit pavilions and platforms there are, so that the children understood and imagined the realities of subway construction.

During this time, many variants of work have been created and proposed, ranging from drawings of cars and uniforms of metro workers of the future, ending with 3D models of pavilions. The younger guys proposed options for upgrading existing stations. The work also captivated the teachers, who set tasks for the students and the children themselves of different ages. The result was many variations of the work. Among them are ideas for creating applications and completely futuristic projects, such as a proposal to lay a subway through the center of the Earth. One of the objects was a fantastic octopus, symbolizing the metro as a huge, fast-growing living organism, capturing more and more new territories.

The project of the Tchaikovskaya station, made by Alena Kirsanova on an approximate scale from scrap materials, is completely imbued with music. The future architect made the columns in the shape of harps, the lamps in the shape of trombones, and placed musical quotations from the works of Pyotr Tchaikovsky on the track wall. The creator of the station adhered to the expression “Architecture is frozen music” and reflected in the layout the rhythm and accents inherent in both music and architecture. This year Alena graduates from school and plans to go to study abroad. Another model, owned by Lisa Umanskaya, is part of one of the three stations of the artists' transfer hub under the general name “Abstraction”. The finished model is dedicated to the works of the artist Mandrian. The other two will be dedicated to Kandinsky and Malevich. The idea is this: a passenger, going down to the station, finds himself inside the painting. She had been nurturing this idea for a long time and was very happy when the opportunity arose to implement it in this project.

– This project is very useful for children, because many points are discussed during the work process. We go through all the stages of the project task: first, analyze the information, then you need to get over it, digest it, find some solutions, formalize it all, do a whole large cycle of different works. Children, having gone through this process, learn how to apply this to any area of activity from idea to implementation,” emphasized Inna Salikhova, General Director of ANO DPO “FA-SAD”
