At site No. 18 (Varshavskoe highway), on July 28, construction of the connecting branch from the Kakhovskaya line to the Zamoskvoretskoye depot began. In the future, it will be along this route that trains on the Big Circle Line (BCL), of which Kakhovskaya will become a part, will be able to pull into the parking lot. Our correspondent watched the start of tunneling work.

The excavation between sites No. 16 and No. 18 will be the 12th for Marina
Site No. 18 is located between the Varshavskaya and Kakhovskaya stations. Tunnel-2001 specialists, together with Stroymekhservice, with the start of reconstruction of the line, carried out excavation work here to build a pit and reinforced it with enclosing structures. The result was a compact ramp chamber for the start of a tunnel boring machine (TBMC).
The Herrenknecht S-290 TBM with 11 stars on a metal casing was entrusted with laying the new section. The shield, which is considered one of the most reliable machines, will have to go through a new path 826.5 meters long with the beautiful name “Marina”.
The builders admit that the site ahead is complex, with water-saturated sands, dense clays and loams. But Marina is no stranger to this. It is designed to overcome underground obstacles under various bodies of water. And it has already proven itself on the Sokolnicheskaya Line. This TBM constructed the stages between Troparevo, Rumyantsevo and Salaryevo. Among the latter is the tunnel to Lefortovo BKL. Now comes another part of the new underground ring with complex geology.

Due to the small size of the pit - 45 by 22 meters - the tail part of the TBM is not completely assembled. Another technological cart will be docked with the shield when it moves 60-80 meters forward. The work will take place at a depth of 10 to 12 meters, with no stops provided. The peculiarity of this work is the quick welding of all elements. Therefore, the formed teams have many mechanics to quickly install parts for the Marina.
The soil will be supplied to the surface through an installed pipeline. Such a system operates on a TBM with a hydraulic load, such as the Herrenknecht S-290. In this case, the soil inside the pipeline undergoes separation. Only after separation from the general solution will it be taken to a landfill for subsequent disposal.
The builders note that the most difficulties will have to be overcome not now, when Marina has started, but at site No. 16, where they are awaiting the release of the mechanized complex. It is there that there is a large abundance of communications: communication cables, water pipelines, sewerage, gas pipelines, heating networks. Work on the transfer of networks is carried out in parallel with the excavation of the haulage tunnel from the depot to the metro line.
Metro construction workers are confident that everything will go well and they will cope with the task. The work is planned to be completed in approximately three and a half to four months.

The tunneling team promises to install the Herrenknecht S-290 TBM under a wide highway in the south of Moscow in 3-4 months
DIRECT SPEECH
Alexey Arbuzov, contract manager of Mosmetrostroy JSC
The Herrenknecht S-290 TBM will have to pass through dense urban areas and cross the Warsaw Highway. This must be done very carefully to prevent the slightest drawdown. The count here will be in millimeters. It is for this purpose that a reliable shield with a hydraulic load has been chosen, which we monitor and care for especially carefully.
The use of the Herrenknecht S-290 TBM guarantees subsidence-free penetration. Brigades have been formed for the work, their composition is stable. In total, 174 people work at the site under the leadership of an experienced metro builder, Evgeniy Bibikov.
