Hundreds of Mosmetrostroy employees received their education at the Moscow Mining Institute. For the 90th anniversary of the Department of Construction of Underground Structures and Mining Enterprises, we collected the memories of students who remained in the profession after graduation.
Alexander Pankratenko, Head of the Department of SPS and GP MHI, Professor, Doctor of Technical Sciences
Department of Construction of Underground Structures and Mining Enterprises (SPS and GP) of the Mining Institute NUST MISIS celebrates its 90th anniversary. The year of her birth is considered to be 1929. For almost a century, professional mining civil engineers have emerged from the walls of the department. They work in enterprises related to the development of the subsoil of the earth, including the underground space of cities. They occupy senior positions in leading companies of the Moscow Construction Complex.
We are proud of our students and have been keeping a chronology of graduations since our founding. To mark the 90th anniversary of the specialty “Mine and Underground Construction”, a book was published about the birth, formation and development of the department. Of course, it contains the names of metro builders. At the time of the 80th anniversary of Mosmetrostroy, 375 of our students were working on the construction of the metro, 18 of them held positions in management.
Sevastian Kim, General Director of SMU-12 Metrostroy LLC
A series of happy accidents brought me to the Mining Institute in 1972. The department determined my destiny by connecting it with tunnel construction. At that time it was headed by Nikolai Mikhailovich Pokrovsky, the founder of the largest scientific and engineering school in the field of mine and underground construction.
The strong teaching staff made the learning process interesting and the lectures exciting. The department taught me how to work with technical literature. Textbooks are still my reference books.
Denis Potapov, deputy. Head of the production department of Mosmetrostroy JSC
I entered the Moscow Mining Institute in 1991. Then the department was called “Construction of underground structures and mines.” The study left positive memories. It was at that moment that the first Pentium computer in Russia appeared at MGI.
The department became a family for me. I met Alexey Arbuzov and Yuri Filatov here. Now they are not only my friends, but also colleagues.
Loved all things related to underground construction. I successfully apply the acquired knowledge in practice. I go to meetings with classmates and keep in touch with Alexander Pankratenko.
Anatoly Romanov, deputy. Chief Engineer-Head of Quality Service of JSC Mosmetrostroy
Graduated from the Mining Institute in 2004. Student life was vibrant and unusual. I still communicate with those who studied in my SP-1-99 group, since many work in their specialty. I also communicate with teachers. Sometimes I come to consult with them on work issues.
Now Alexander Nikitovich Pankratenko, my thesis supervisor, Boris Arnoldovich Kartozia, Mikhail Nikolaevich Shuplik and Elena Yuryevna Kulikova are helping to preserve the department. I remember Vladimir Nikolaevich Borisov with respect. The department produces personnel who are capable of solving most problems in the field of underground construction.
Alexey Arbuzov, head of the complex of JSC "Mosmetrostroy"
I studied from 1991 to 1996. Specialty: construction of underground structures and mines. This was the last classic edition of mining engineers. We were lucky to find the teaching staff of the old school: Kartozia, Shuplik, Borisov, Pankratenko, Kulikov. I have great respect for these people and for the university. These are the best years - youth. We still maintain contact with the department and teachers. They help us, and we help them.
In the mid-1990s, almost no subways were built. We, graduates focused on metro construction, went to the Mining Works Trust. At that time, large-scale preparations were underway for the 850th anniversary of Moscow. They were building the Moscow Ring Road, the third ring. In the 2000s, times changed, and he came to Mosmetrostroy. The theory and practice that I was taught at the institute helped me quickly adapt to my new job.
Sergey Kamyshov, Deputy General Director of JSC “Mosmetrostroy”
I dreamed of building a metro since the ninth grade of school. He studied at the department in 1973-1978. The teachers gave a lot of insight into the processes of future work. These were world-famous professors, including Nikolai Mikhailovich Pokrovsky and Ilya Dmitrievich Nasonov. The subjects were read by professionals who knew the matter well. For example, Mikhail Nikolaevich Shuplik told us about special methods of excavation - freezing, water reduction, chemicalization. He still works, although he is already over eighty.
Lectures at that time were read, as they should be, and not dictated. If you had something in your head, then you chose what you needed and made your own notes, which someone else could not prepare for. I am grateful for the years of study. I believe that I did not make a mistake in choosing the department of underground structures.
