Ilya Popkov: A cherry forest will grow in Lefortovo

The Aviamotornaya and Lefortovo stations of the Big Ring have been accepting passengers for almost three months. Deputy Chief Engineer of Tunnel-2001 LLC Ilya Popkov spoke about the work done to improve the areas around the new station complexes.

Ilya Borisovich, Tunnel-2001 was involved in the improvement of the areas around two BKL stations. What areas did the organization get? And what has already been done?

Tunnel-2001 LLC carries out all improvement work in the area of newly built stations, assigned by the customer JSC Mosmetrostroy. The first stage of Aviamotornaya is a pedestrian zone around the lobby and station complex and reconstruction of the road network adjacent to the station. The project includes the reconstruction and strengthening of existing utilities in accordance with the requirements of the Moscow Metro, the installation of new drainage and drainage networks both on roadways and in the pedestrian area. New automatic traffic control systems, traffic lights, and street lighting will also be installed. The sidewalks are paved with granite tiles and rolled lawns are laid. The design of the roadway along Entuziastov Passage will be completely replaced. There are two stages of improvement at Lefortovo. There are large volumes here. They concern landscaping and sports infrastructure facilities in the station complex area, and a complete renovation of the existing school grounds. In the process of work, additional improvements arose in the area of the near-tunnel structures.

This is not the first major improvement project at Tunnel-2001. What was new this time among the work performed?

The projects always take into account the existing urban development. For example, the requirements for landscaping the space around the Okruzhnaya, Verkhnie Likhobory and Seligerskaya stations on the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line assumed the organic nature of the metro facilities and the area around them. The closer to the center of the capital, the higher the requirements for improvement, especially in historically established areas. It is necessary to take into account the opinions of local residents and constantly be in contact with them. The landscaping around the new BCL stations is more diverse and multifaceted than previously implemented projects. Thus, we became acquainted with the requirements of the city education department when we reconstructed the school grounds on Aviamotornaya Street and were engaged in the construction of sports and children's playgrounds with a special safe coating. Flower beds with alpine slides were also laid out.

Were landscape designers involved in the project?

Yes, this way we move to a more complex level when implementing such projects.

What other unusual objects will there be?

The plans include the creation of an original multifunctional sports complex near Lefortovo with exercise equipment, dance floors and an area for summer performances. In winter, this area will turn into an ice skating rink with artificial turf. The plants chosen for landscaping also cannot be called familiar. A cherry forest will appear in the park near Lefortovo, which we will have to create together with local residents. Once upon a time there was such a grove in this area, it will appear on City Day - in early September of this year. By this date we will complete the arrangement of sports infrastructure and bicycle paths.

How many people and equipment were involved in landscaping the areas near the stations?

During peak periods, 300-350 people and up to 25-30 pieces of equipment worked at the facilities. In winter, it was necessary to arrange additional thermal shelters for the foundations and organize a continuous cycle of work. It is worth noting that carrying out landscaping work in winter has become customary for our organization. This happened on the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line and on the Savelovskaya BCL. Here, too, we started in the winter; we celebrated the New Year holidays at work at Aviamotornaya and Lefortovo. During the cold season, additional resources are needed. This applies to both people and technology. We have all this.

What impressions did you have from working at this facility?

The experience itself turned out to be interesting. In general, the task set by the general director was for Tunnel-2001 LLC to carry out with its own resources the entire range of work on the construction of the Lefortovo station and distillation tunnels. And it’s great that we are able to participate in the full cycle from developing the site and laying communications for the station to commissioning the facility and landscaping around it. This is a big plus for the organization. And it’s easier to do the work when it’s concentrated in one person’s hands. The result will then be excellent.
