Despite difficult times for the country, metro builders continue to build new facilities in the capital's metro. On March 27, two stations of the Big Circle Line (BCL) – “Aviamotornaya” and “Lefortovo” – opened for passengers.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin attended the opening ceremony of the new stations. Together with him, the first passengers appreciated their convenience and design.
– Let’s remember: the metro in Moscow was always built and opened, even in the most difficult years. And today we will not curtail the implementation of this large-scale project, which lays the foundation for the development of the city for decades to come,” the head of the capital emphasized.
“Aviamotornaya” and “Lefortovo” will temporarily operate as an extension of the Nekrasovskaya metro line. Later, as part of the Nizhegorodskaya - Aviamotornaya and Aviamotornaya - Elektrozavodskaya sections, they will be included in the Bolshaya Ring Road.
ENGAGED TO YELLOW
The new Aviamotornaya line united the Bolshaya Koltsevaya line with the Kalininsko-Solntsevskaya line in the east. The design theme of the station corresponds to the name. The ceiling depicts a cloud trail left by a passing airliner. The aircraft's trail also imitates a variety of LED and neon aluminum lamps. The columns on the platform follow the shape of aircraft parts, and the ceilings made of slatted panels create a feeling of air currents. The monochrome palette emphasizes the triumph of technological progress.
“The Big Ring and the Kalininsko-Solntsevskaya line were “engaged” with such an unusual station,” says Vladimir Chudnetsov, deputy chief engineer of SMU-1. “We started with a section of road that we received more than three years ago. And from the demolished market. Then they fenced off the site and started moving communications. There were a lot of underground networks in this part of the city, he continues, so their removal turned out to be the most difficult stage in the construction of the Aviamotornaya Big Ring.
In February 2017, construction of the northern vestibule began, and already in September the first tunneling complexes launched underground, connecting Aviamotornaya and Lefortovo. The construction of the stages between Aviamotornaya and its neighbors along the new ring road lasted two years and ended last June with the construction of the right stage tunnel from the Nizhegorodskaya station. At the same time, the builders began finishing the platform, and Aviamotornaya began to take on its appearance.

At the end of 2019, a technical launch took place, the first train traveled from Aviamotornaya to Lefortovo on the Big Circle Line. Three months later, the station accepts passengers. The area around was landscaped: sidewalks were paved with granite, lawns were laid out, benches, lamps and trash bins were installed.
WE WERE INSPIRED BY THE COUNT'S PALACE
There are no transfers at the neighboring Lefortovo station. But it was built no less difficult than Aviamotornaya. The work took more than four years. The main difficulties were when driving under the railway tracks of the Kazan direction. Special safety packages were installed to prevent subsidence or distortion of the rails. The construction of the enclosing structures of the foundation pit for the vestibule was made difficult by the presence of strong limestone. During the construction of tunnel structures, they encountered a large water influx, and special methods were used. Digging all the tunnels took two years. We started in August 2016, and the final relay took place in August 2018, when the construction of the left section from Lefortovo towards Aviamotornaya was completed.

In 2019, after the construction of the main monolithic structures of the station, finishing work began. Monochrome thematic drawings in the ticket office and lobby are reminiscent of the rich historical heritage of the Lefortovo district, after which the station is named.
A black and white decorative panel with an area of about 40 square meters appeared on the walls of the lobby. It depicts the building of the Franz Lefort Palace in its original form, reflected in the water surface of the Yauza River. Heraldic symbols of the family coat of arms of the Lefort dynasty appeared in the ceiling panel of the lobby. The diameter of the image was about five meters.
“The painting was placed in a ceiling niche with built-in lamps; its creation was a particularly labor-intensive process,” recalls Ivan Sopov, head of section No. 1 of the USR. “To begin with, we had to install scaffolding, and do it on previously installed escalators. It was not easy to carry out work in such conditions, but we managed to reproduce all the details of the artistic idea, including the heraldic symbols of the count's family coat of arms: an elephant and a knight's helmet.
When finishing the station complex, white marble was used on the inclined passages and in the ticket office, black granite and fiber-reinforced concrete were used when finishing the lobby. More modern materials have also found their place - gabrodiabase and aluminum panels.
The area around Lefortovo station has also been improved. New pedestrian paths and lighting have appeared.
