On February 9, 2025, SMU-6 of Metrostroy made a breakdown in the escalator tunnel with the tension chamber of the second vestibule of the "Rizhskaya" station of the Big Circle Line.
Opened on March 1, 2023, Rizhskaya became one of the stations that closed the Great Ring of the subway. However, work on its project continued: in addition to the transfer to the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line and access to the underground passage in the direction of the Rizhsky station, they decided to build an above-ground vestibule near the Riga market. It is necessary for transfer to the platform of the same name on the second Moscow Central Diameter.
The construction of the inclined passage was entrusted to the workers of Mosinzhproekt and Mosmetrostroy. At the station, barriers were installed in the center of the hall to construct a staircase. And the most interesting thing happens out of sight of passengers - the builders laid an inclined passage for the escalators of the future lobby at an angle of 60 degrees and carried out the disruption of underground workings - a tunnel and a tension chamber, which were moving towards each other.
–We passed 165 inclined rings with a diameter of 10.5 m without the use of a tunnel shield, manually. To do this, we froze the soil to get rid of quicksand, then we went through limestone and carbon fiber - typical soil of the Moscow underground, - Alexander Nevin, deputy head of the SMU-6 section of Metrostroy, told Metrostroevets.
According to him, the builders are laying waterproofing and drilling the future ground vestibule with brown-secant piles, and in April they plan to begin laying the inclined passage with concrete.
The second lobby of the Rizhskaya station will be located near Vodoprovodny Lane, next to Mira Avenue, the Riga Market and the Third Ring Road. Modern escalators will quickly and comfortably take passengers to approximately 60 meters deep, significantly reducing transfers to MCD-2.
