Metro construction workers from SMU-6 under the leadership of the head of section No. 5 Nikolai Panov on October 20 completed the excavation of the middle station tunnel of the future "Rizhskaya" station of the Big Circle Line.

The middle station hall of the "Rizhskaya" station. Over the course of a year, SMU-6 specialists installed 160 rings with a diameter of 9.5 meters
The excavation of the middle station tunnel at a depth of 65 meters began in October 2019. Its length is 160 rings with a diameter of 9.5 meters. After the construction of the first 16 rings and installation of the TU2GP tunnel layer in December, metro construction workers reached an average speed of 20 rings per month and completed excavation by the end of October 2020.
The work was carried out in difficult mining and geological conditions, with abundant water seeping from the face. There were minor breakdowns of the block paver along the way, but they were successfully dealt with by the mechanical service of the site, represented by mechanics Sergei Dvoretsky and Evgeniy Borisenko.
– All stages of the construction of the middle station hall proceeded as usual. Now work is underway to connect the tunnel with the inclined tension chamber No. 1, said Deputy Chief Engineer Alexander Volzhenin.
The blocklayer is currently being dismantled. At the same time, work is underway to rebuild the side station tunnels. Reinforced concrete rings with a diameter of 6 meters are replaced with cast iron rings with a diameter of 8.5 meters.
On the other side of the future station hall, the forces of section No. 4 under the leadership of Sergei Sleptsov are carrying out work on the construction of an interchange to the “Rizhskaya” Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line. At the moment, the approach corridors and staircase chambers are completely built. Waterproofing works of these workings are underway.
