Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on January 18 visited the Kakhovskaya line, where large-scale reconstruction is ongoing. Until recently, it was the shortest in the Moscow metro. But very soon the line will become part of the longest ring line in the world.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and First Deputy General Director of Mosmetrostroy JSC Mikhail Arbuzov inspected the progress of the reconstruction of the Kakhovskaya line
– The Kakhovskaya station and its neighbors Varshavskaya and Kashirskaya have served Muscovites for more than 50 years. Now they will be included in the new Great Circle metro line. We took this opportunity to overhaul all three stations and make them more convenient for passengers,” noted Sergei Sobyanin when inspecting Kakhovskaya.
Currently, architectural and finishing work is underway here, the installation of the main structures of the lobby and the construction of a new pedestrian crossing to the Sevastopolskaya Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya line are underway. Overall readiness is 50%.
Specialists from USR and MMC International are working on the updated appearance of Kakhovskaya. The design of Kakhovskaya will remain familiar to passengers. We are talking about replacing outdated facing materials with new ones.
– We finish the track walls with two types of stones: Sayan marble and labradorite granite on the subsystem. We cover the octagonal columns with red-brown marble, the track walls with white and crimson ceramic tiles,” said Roman Baranov, head of section No. 2 of the USR.
The first task of the metro builders is to preserve the historical appearance of the station, the second is to introduce modern engineering systems, increase the reliability of communications and the entire facility as a whole.
– An important emphasis in the work is on replacing utilities. The station will have new lighting, water pipes and other networks,” emphasized Alexander Valakh, head of the MMC International section. – Of course, it is easier to lay communications at a new facility, but here you have to make non-standard decisions at the existing station, adapt to what is available. It turns out that we must introduce new systems into the existing skeleton, having removed all that is unnecessary.
And developing a project for networks takes longer than for a station built from scratch. Only after all the calculations can you begin work. This significantly increases the reconstruction time.
At the same time, construction of the track's superstructure is underway. However, in order to complete this work entirely, it is necessary to complete the repair of the tunnels. The dead ends behind the station have already been repaired and handed over for the installation of utility systems. We have started updating the section from Kakhovskaya to Varshavskaya. Chips and cracks are sanitized and filled with a special repair compound, which will increase the reliability of the tunnels and increase their service life. Very soon they will be handed over to TO-6 specialists for laying the superstructure of the track. And the office premises will be transferred to SMU-24 for the installation of equipment and fire protection systems.
At Varshavskaya, the platform lining has been dismantled, and the dismantling of reinforced concrete slabs has almost been completed. At Kashirskaya, a shut-off partition is being installed at the station. A third of the station's columns have been dismantled, and the platform floors have been partially dismantled. The track walls are being lined.
In addition to the stations themselves, work has been carried out at five more sites. At the T-38 traction and step-down substation, specialists are building the second floor of an additional extension. At site No. 18, the Herrenknecht S-290 TBM with hydraulic load is being dismantled. The shield went into the ground at the end of December. Now it is being prepared for a new excavation, which starts in February.
“The TBM previously covered 827 meters,” said Alexey Arbuzov, head of the contract at Mos-Metrostroy JSC. – He will have to go about the same distance when constructing the left section.
In addition, at site No. 16.2 - in the ramp chamber - the soil is being excavated and the foundation pit is being secured. At two more points - in dead ends behind the Kashirskaya station - construction of pit fencing is underway.

The Kashirskaya – Kakhovskaya section was opened in 1969. In 1995, it became an independent and at the same time the shortest line of the Moscow metro. She was given the number 11 and painted turquoise on the map. Very soon the line, as the designers intended 50 years ago, will become part of the Big Circle.
