Reconstruction of the "Varshavskaya" station is in full swing. The platform is being finished here, and work is in full swing on the renovated vestibules. Alexey Arbuzov, head of the contract at Mosmetrostroy JSC, spoke about the details.
Two and a half years ago, Varshavskaya temporarily stopped accepting passengers. Having worked for more than half a century, the station is already replacing the third line in the capital’s subway. From 1969 to 1995 it belonged to the Zamoskvoretskaya line, after and until 2019 - to the Kakhovskaya line. Upon completion of large-scale reconstruction, Varshavskaya will become part of the Greater Metro Ring.
Architectural and finishing work is currently ongoing at the station. The lining of the platform section is at a high stage of completion. Previously, it was decided to preserve the familiar appearance of the station and, first of all, decorative panels on a historical theme.
Cast panels-bas-reliefs dedicated to the landscapes of the city of Warsaw with the code names “Sigismund’s Column”, “Warsaw Nike” (monument to the “Heroes of Warsaw” 1939-1945), “Old Town”, “Sailboats on the Vistula”, have already been placed in their places - track walls.
“The second track of the station has already been transferred to the metro,” said Alexey Arbuzov. – Materials are being supplied now. The laying of the upper track structure in the first tunnel will begin after the repairs are completed - the so-called “treatment”.
It will be carried out with a special solution, which will be pumped into the places where the distillation has been chipped. They will also do some “cosmetics” in the tunnel. After this, the crews will begin laying the superstructure of the track. Finishing is also underway. Thus, the columns of “Varshavskaya” are “dressed” in dark marble, and the track walls are lined with white stone panels.
“In total, 50-70 people work at the site around the clock,” said Alexey Arbuzov.
Work is also in full swing on the reconstruction of the lobby. Now the builders are busy finishing the technical premises - they are erecting brick partitions, plastering and painting the walls, and tiling the floors.
Specialists also carry out the installation of utilities and systems for various purposes. At the same time, the old finishing of the underground pedestrian crossing running under the railway is being dismantled.
