The next station is Metrostroevskaya

The new Sokolniki station was designed as part of the north-eastern section of the Big Circle Line called “Stromynka”. Its architectural appearance was thought out in a single concept with the entire site, starting from Aviamotornaya to Maryina Roshcha. Over time, it became clear that the completion of construction coincides with the 90th anniversary of Mosmetrostroy. It was also symbolic that Sokolniki BKL is located in close proximity to one of the first stations of the Moscow metro. These facts prompted architects and builders to dedicate the new station to the pioneers of the capital's subway.

The station is located on Sokolnicheskaya Square next to Rusakovskaya Street. It has two underground lobbies. The first is located under Sokolnicheskaya Square with exits to Rusakovskaya Street and transfer corridors to the existing Sokolniki station on the Sokolnicheskaya Line of the Moscow Metro. Lobby No. 2 is designed at the opposite end of the station complex with access to Peschany Lane to residential buildings and Sokolniki Park. The station is columnar, shallow, and is being built in an open way from monolithic reinforced concrete. Open flights of stairs in the center of the platform and passenger galleries along the track walls are elements of the transfer structures.

DIRECT SPEECH

Alexander Orlov, head of the architectural workshop of JSC Metrogiprotrans

The main architectural elements of the station are made in black and white graphics. They became a kind of substrate for color accents of artistic panels. The image on the ceiling of the first metro line in Moscow descends onto the track walls, connecting the entire composition. The entire length of the track walls is divided into black planes and paintings. Background glossy surfaces create planarity and depth. There are many reflections: passengers, trains. The picture will begin to move and the station will come to life.

To illuminate the passenger platform, suspended longitudinal lamps are provided above the edges of the platform. On the central part of the floor of the platform hall, large planes of a white suspended ceiling were designed, acting as reflective surfaces.

The central character of each of the 14 panels was the person who created the unique underground architecture of Moscow. Passengers will see the inspired faces of the heroic metro builders, for whom the hardest work was romantic and beautiful. The compositions of the panels are based on a combination of archival materials, photographs chronicling the construction of the metro, on unrealized projects of masters of architecture, individual parts of the station complexes, which are rightfully considered masterpieces of metro architecture.

THE STATION IS 85% READY

Finishing work is currently ongoing at the station. The main monolithic work has been completed, the last concrete is being laid at the junction with the Sokolnicheskaya line and vestibule No. 1. Lobby No. 2 is almost ready.

Inside, in the station hall and on the balcony gallery, stone was laid on the floor, columns and staircases were lined. On 98% of the track walls, panels with thematic images are installed, which will become the main accent of the architectural appearance of the station.

– Installation of panels is one of the most difficult and critical stages. They came from the factory numbered. We mount them on the walls so that each one takes its place and the correct pattern is obtained. Now let's move on to the ceiling. The difficulty here is to get into the pattern that goes from the ceiling to the walls of the balcony. During the work, they decided to raise the ceiling level by 20 cm for better docking,” said Sergei Kaluzhsky, contract manager of Mosmetrostroy JSC, who is supervising the construction of the Sokolniki BKL. – When the panels on the ceiling take their design positions, the builders will begin installing the lighting.

IMPROVEMENT

The fact that the station is in the final stage of construction can already be seen on the surface. The backfill work has almost been completed, ventilation kiosks have appeared, landscaping is slowly unfolding: asphalt has been laid on both sides of the construction site, and the area around the shopping center next door is lined with stone.

The central alley leading from the metro to Sokolniki Park will be decorated with red brick, including ventilation windows. The color was not chosen by chance. Many historical buildings in the Sokolniki district are made of red brick. In addition, Sokolniki is a metro red line station.

Muscovites will see the completely renovated alley next summer, at which time the new station itself will be opened.

BTW

Each panel contains part of the history of the creation of one of the greatest wonders of the world, striking in its splendor - the Moscow metro. The metro has inspired architects, artists and sculptors throughout history. The most famous architects, artists, and sculptors of our country participated in the creation of unique works of architecture. The metro protected and served as a refuge for residents of the capital during the difficult years of the Great Patriotic War.
