The construction of the 13th station, “Suvorovskaya”, located under the Catherine Square, is gaining momentum on the Circle Line of the metro.
– Construction of the station began back in 1988. Due to a change in project and lack of funding, it was mothballed. The mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, decided to complete the construction of Suvorovskaya at the expense of the city’s Targeted Investment Program. Taking into account the future passenger flow and the new transfer from the Koltsevaya to the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line, construction is economically justified, said Sergei Zhukov, General Director of Mosmetrostroy JSC.
“Suvorovskaya” will be located at a depth of 42 meters in close proximity to two subway lines. This explains the complexity of its construction - the main work will be carried out manually and the construction period will be long - seven years.

– The use of tunnel-boring shields is not provided here. For excavation we use the drilling and blasting method, and in the technical zone of the metro we use only manual labor with jackhammers, so as not to disturb the structure of existing tunnels,” explained Denis Gusarov, head of the SMU-6 section.
The primary task is the construction of 900-meter bypass tunnels through which the traffic of Circle Line trains will be restarted. After this, construction of the station complex will begin.
Suvorovskaya will have two ground-based lobbies with exits to Durova Street and Olimpiysky Prospekt. The possibility of making a direct exit from the metro to the Olimpiysky sports complex is being discussed, for which the first passage with travelators in the Moscow metro will be built.
