Fit into the ring

Global reconstruction has begun on the Kakhovskaya line - the shortest in the Moscow metro. We tell you what will have to be rebuilt for its successful integration into the Big Circle.

Kakhovskaya is unusually quiet for the first time in 50 years of its history. No trains or passengers are visible. In March, the station of the line of the same name was closed for major repairs.

By the end of the year, USR workers will completely change the decoration in the station hall, remove tiles from the track walls, and old granite from the floor. The platform structure will be dismantled and a new one will be built.

Kakhovskaya will be re-faced with granite slabs, preserving the historical appearance with octagonal columns. Cast inserts by sculptors Soshinskaya and Gorchakov with scenes from the Civil War will remain in their places.

The lobbies will also be modernized. Moreover, the reconstruction of the western one involves the construction of another transfer to the Sevastopolskaya station of the Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya line. MMC International is responsible for this work.

Varshavskaya and Kashirskaya are still available for passengers. Trains still run on them. Later, both stations will also replace the architectural decoration of walls, columns and platforms, and renovate the underground lobbies. At Varshavskaya, builders have already begun dismantling the lining of the track walls.

PREPARE FOR JOINING

Over half a century of operation, the Kakhovskaya line has become outdated, its capacity lags behind modern construction standards. The reconstruction involves replacing the superstructure of the track along the entire length of the line. All engineering communications will be updated by SMU-24 and their subcontractors.

Between Varshavskaya and Kakhovskaya, Tunnel-2001 workers will build a ramp chamber and lay a branch line to the Zamoskvoretskoye depot. Trains will be able to run both between stations and pull into the parking lot.

The most ambitious task is to prepare the line for connecting with the BKL. From the west, a tunnel is being excavated from the Zyuzino station; from the east, a connection with Klenov Boulevard is expected.

DIRECT SPEECH

Sergey Kamyshov, Deputy General Director of JSC "Mosmetrostroy"

From the Kakhovskaya side, the connection is quite simple. There are concrete ends of the tunnels, which we will simply open. It’s more difficult with Kashirskaya. The BKL route is suitable in such a way that 150 meters of tunnels will have to be reconstructed in order to fit into the ring. Reconstruction of the Kakhovskaya line is an objective necessity for its integration into the BKL.
