Moscow Metrostroy dates back to October 1931. Since then, a lot has changed: construction methods, technology, managers. One thing remained unshakable - the company successfully coped with the tasks assigned to it thanks to its employees.
Each new generation passes on valuable experience to the next. This year, the age of Mosmetrostroy has become a kind of symbol of continuous continuity. For the company's birthday, we talked with metro builders of different ages, united by a common cause.

Felix Achildiev, 91 years old, traveler, veteran of TO-6
In 1952 he came to SMU-1 of Mosmetrostroy. I was hired to build the Circle Line. He laid his first path on the section between Krasnopresnenskaya and Belorusskaya.
The profession, on the one hand, is complex, but on the other, very simple: take more, throw further! The main thing was physical strength, which I had in abundance. He joined Kryuchkov’s brigade, where he learned his first skills: how to bend a rail and load it onto a cart. I quickly got used to it.
After completing the courses for surveyors, he worked for a year in Mutnetsk, from where timber was supplied to Metrostroy. Participated as a surveyor in the construction of 13 km of narrow gauge tracks, nine bridges and five turnouts.
Returning to Moscow, he entered the Katamanin brigade as a tunneler on the hauls between Frunzenskaya and Park Kultury. The foreman gave a lot of knowledge on tunnel construction. With him, we were the first to pass the section of the route from the “University” to the “Yugo-Zapadnaya” - without any defects, with excellent marks.
While studying at the technical school, I worked in a caisson on the Lenin Hills. They built tunnels to the University station: 900 meters under a pressure of 2.2 atm.
On the stretch between Sokol and Rechnoy Vokzal, I laid the longest rail of 300 meters. Then a scandal happened. I left big gaps and the roadman didn't want to take the job. But I did everything according to science, as written in the reference book. It was winter, and metal shrinks from the cold. If the gaps are reduced, when the trains start running, they will have to be cut out. Then I proved that I was right and they left me.
I worked as a railway worker for eight years in total. Participated in laying 50 km of tracks. The brigade he led began laying tracks with welded lashes for the first time.
After technical school, he worked on the construction of an overpass in Izmailovo. It was built in October, when there was already severe frost.
On the stretch from “Varshavskaya” to “Kakhovskaya” they set a record - four meters of tunnel per shift. He was a labor safety engineer for 12 years, then he headed the underground drilling and blasting section. He retired in 2001 at the age of 74.
Mosmetrostroy has changed during this time. We had a pick, a shovel and a jackhammer. Everything is electronic now. I wish young people to build in such a way that the beauty of the metro will surprise passengers. At the same time, let the stations be comfortable and safe.
Alexander Kormushin, 64 years old,Deputy General Director of SMU-8
He came to the Moscow Metrostroy in 1978. This is my first and only place of work. While still studying at the institute, he began as a tunneler at the Babushkinskaya station, and was a reinforcement worker. In 1980 he graduated from high school and became a mining foreman.
He worked as a shift engineer for nine years, and as a site manager for another 12 years. Then he headed the production and technical department of SMU-8. He was deputy chief engineer, now deputy general director.
Coming to production, a person falls into the hands of a mentor. At the beginning of my journey, Ivan Kashirkin became like this. Later, Yuri Rakhmaninov, Vladimir Efimov and section chiefs Nikolai Gryzukhin and Vsevolod Churkin served as technical engineers.
You gain experience within the brigade, then you begin to pass it on yourself. We teach young people not only how to conduct excavation, but also how to behave in general.
In the beginning there were no computers and telephones, but only a slide rule and an iron felix. Now times are different, complex mechanisms for mining rock have appeared, and mining has accelerated. And today the SMU-8 team is trying to pass on the traditions to the young. I would like to see the company standing firmly on its feet with constant volumes in metro construction.

Dmitry Sytnik,
32 years old, head of the estimate and contract department of MMC International
I came to Mosmetrostroy in 2015. Graduated from the university with a degree in mine and underground construction. At the same time, he received an economic education. Participated in the construction of transport tunnels in Sochi and Novorossiysk. That is, I know both the technology of conducting work and its economic component. This allowed me to become an employee in the estimate and contract department.
We calculate all the work that builders do and translate it into a financial result for customers.
At the very beginning it was difficult to enter the new structure. It is important that at this moment there is someone nearby who can help. Mosmetrostroy veterans became my mentors. In particular, Tamara Vorobyova, an employee of the estimate department, who worked for many years at SMU-11. Great support was provided by the employees of the Pricing Department of the Office - Elena Trushina and Oksana Idrisova.
I want to see Metrostroy as a prosperous company, expanding its scope of activity far beyond the capital's metro.
