Metro in the world

In THE METRO CAME TO AUSTRALIA

In Sydney, the largest city in Australia, the first metro on the mainland opened on May 26. So far, only the North-Western Line, 36 kilometers long, is operational. Automated, driverless trains run between 13 stations. They plan to launch the second stage in 2024. Then the Sydney metro will serve 31 stations, the total length of the tracks will be 66 kilometers.

PARIS METRO WILL GET A STATION-RESTAURANT

The closed station of the Paris metro “Croix-Rouge” will work again in 2021 in a new capacity. They plan to place a fashionable cocktail bar and restaurant on it. The project of an establishment in an unusual location was proposed by the Architectural group SME Architectes to participate in the “Rethink Paris 2” competition.

It will be possible to get to the restaurant called “Terminus”, just like other metro stations. The connection to Croix Rouge is still operational, but since the closure trains have passed through it without stopping. You can also enter the underground bar through the entrance from the street.

Croix-Rouge has two shore platforms. This allowed the authors of the project to divide the station space into zones. One of them will serve as a cocktail bar, the second – as a restaurant.

Terminus means “terminal station” in French. This has been the “Croix-Rouge” since 1923 for line 10 of the Paris metro. The station closed in 1939 when France entered World War II. There are two dozen similar abandoned objects in Paris.

KRASNOYARSK SUBWAY COULD USEFUL THE EXPERIENCE OF SOUTH KOREA

In Krasnoyarsk, the experience of South Korea can be used to continue construction of the metro. As the city's vice-mayor Oleg Zhivotov said, the option of combining the metro and high-speed tram with shallow tunnels is being considered. Funds for updating the project have already been allocated, but the final plan has not yet been selected. Most of the planned Krasnoyarsk metro stations are deep. Therefore, the construction of the first stage of the existing project will require serious expenses.

Ground stations in Siberia

Already next year, the first ground stations of the Novosibirsk metro will receive passengers. The public transport development project is called the “Urban Electric Train”. According to the mayor of Novosibirsk, Anatoly Lokot, a total of four above-ground metro stops will be built in the Kirovsky district. “The ground metro is a relatively inexpensive way to relieve congestion on city roads and ensure accessibility of the center for residents of remote microdistricts - the city electric train project may become real as early as 2019,” explained Anatoly Lokot. Let us remind you that the Novosibirsk metro was launched in 1985.

A vintage train was launched in New York

On April 2, a retro train was launched in the New York subway in honor of the opening of the football season. Our American colleagues have been continuing this tradition for several years. A vintage 4-car Lo-V (low voltage) train from 1917 ran between 42 St-Grand Central and 161 St-Yankee Stadium. Passengers were not allowed on board the vintage train - it traveled non-stop. Its carriages are made of wood and topped with iron. There is a ceiling fan inside the cabin in hot weather. The train got its nickname, meaning “low voltage”, because it does not use the third rail for travel.

SMARTPHONE WILL PAY THE FARE

On October 23, New York authorities approved a new fare system for the city's subway. Passengers will be able to buy a ticket by placing a smartphone or bank card at the turnstile. This will be an adapted version of the system that has been used by British colleagues for several years and, more recently, by Moscow. For the technology to work, new electronic readers will be installed at 500 turnstiles in the metro. Paying for travel by phone or credit card should reduce queues at vending machines for transport cards and speed up passenger flow.

TRAIN WITH RUSSIAN ACCENT

On October 25, a new themed train, “Heart of Russia,” was launched on the London Underground. The train will run for three months on three lines - Circle, Hammersmith & City and District. It will introduce residents and guests of the British capital to the most significant achievements of Russia in science and art. The train has seven carriages, each of which is dedicated to a different theme: ballet, fine arts, literature, cinema, architecture, space and science.

A new metro station has opened in Tbilisi for the first time in 17 years. It was named "State University". Construction of the station in the Georgian capital began a quarter of a century ago. Photography and video recording will soon be allowed in the Tashkent metro. A document that will allow tourists and local residents to film the subway of the capital of Uzbekistan is currently being approved. Tashkent authorities will establish a competition for the best photo of the metro.

METRO TEST RUN IN VIETNAM POSTPONED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS

In the Vietnamese city of Hanoi, the trial launch of the country's first metro line was postponed. The cause was the outbreak of coronavirus 2019-nCoV in China. Entry restrictions for citizens from China did not allow specialists building the Hanoi metro to return after the New Year holidays.

Twenty-day test trials of the new line were planned to begin on February 1. Only after their successful completion will the local technical supervision service be able to issue a safety certificate. It will allow opening a new line for passengers.

It is planned that 12 trains consisting of four cars will run along the line. The expected passenger traffic is 1.2 thousand people per day. All stations are designed in the same high-tech style with dark glass trim, and the trains of the first metro line are painted green.

Construction of the Hanoi metro began in 2011. This is a light metro connecting the city center with remote residential areas. The 13 km long railway is raised onto an overpass. Hanoi's long-term metro development strategy involves the construction of eight metro lines with a length of 417 km. The main routes are planned to be above ground, and only some sections will be laid underground.

For the Moscow Metro Construction, Vietnam is one of the promising areas. On June 29, 2017, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed for the construction of metro lines in the cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City between JSC Mosmetrostroy and the Vietnamese company Lung Lo Construction Corporation.
