Sergey Shkarin: “always tried to invent”

We continue the “Frankly speaking” section. Its heroes are employees of the Mosmetrostroy group of companies, who share their rules of life with readers and speak honestly about themselves. This time we talked with the General Director of UMM CJSC Sergei Shkarin. He talked about his guiding star and about the city he misses.

After college I worked for 21 years in the Tashkent Metro Construction. I started as an electrician and gradually went through all the stages. In 1994, he moved to the capital for a permanent job at Mosmetrostroy.

UMM – specific control. We do more mental work than physical work. Sometimes we jokingly decipher UMM as the mind of Mosmetrostroy.

First of all UMM specialists must have knowledge. It is also important to love your job and rely on the team. You also need to constantly work on yourself, as the technique changes and improves.

The most striking invention of UMM was the new type of block-layer US-01. At one time, explosive excavation was prohibited for safety reasons. Then we created a block laying machine, under which a roadheader can work. A completely new type of mechanism. The difference is like between a Zhiguli and a Mercedes.

Making me angryhard. The most unpleasant thing is when they want to deceive or lie, and then they start to get out. We immediately kick out those who work dishonestly.

The most memorable stage of his career was the launch of the first stage of the Tashkent metro. It was difficult and interesting.

I have always tried to expand my knowledge, to observe the work of builders in order to learn how to create mechanisms for them. I tried to invent something, to rationalize the process.

Since childhood I was involved in aircraft modeling, went to a club, and went to competitions. I think my love for technology helped me in my work.

My father was a military pilot, took part in the capture of Koenigsberg. They were then transferred to the Japanese front. At that time, a large military base of the USSR was created in Dalny. At the end of 1945, mother and father got married and moved to this city. That's where I was born. This territory was later transferred to China. Then we moved to Vladikavkaz, where I spent my entire childhood and graduated from the mining institute. After studying in the direction, he left for Tashkent.

My guide to life – wife Sonia. We lived with her for 44 years. A very wise woman who always knows where to give in.

My son works in the construction industry. The daughter is a financier at Mosmetrostroy. So the dynasty of builders continues.

Even while relaxing somewhere, after a couple of days I start to miss work. I love wild holidays. An ideal vacation for me is to go with friends to the mountains in the Caucasus and relax with them for three or four days.

By nature I am sedentary. It was very difficult to leave Tashkent. It was a beautiful, kind, warm, grain-producing city. Sometimes I miss it even more than Vladikavkaz.

MoscowI have always loved. When I was studying at the institute, we sometimes came here during the holidays to hang out with friends.

In my free time I like to build. I design, draw and implement myself. I built one dacha, then I wanted to remodel it, use modern materials - I sold it, bought land and started a new one.

I love the movie “Taming of Fire.” I like the personality of chief designer Korolev shown in it and his style of work.

From books I love “The 12 Chairs” and “The Adventures of the Good Soldier Schweik during the World War” by Hasek. I like Chekhov. When I was younger, I really loved the books of Leo Tolstoy. Sometimes, once every six months, I can read the Bible.
