Sergey Zhukov: “We must live and work according to our conscience”

We continue the “Frankly speaking” section. Its heroes are employees of the Mosmetrostroy group of companies, who share their rules of life with readers. This time we talked with the General Director of Mosmetrostroy JSC Sergei Zhukov. He told how early he began to feel like a leader, explained why he doesn’t like praise and why the construction profession is wonderful.

As a leader, for me the biggest problem is the amount of information that you are trying to pass through yourself. Your own brains, concentration and dedication help you cope.

We must work and live according to our conscience. Then everything will work out. If you start scheming, everything will fall apart someday. Like the financial pyramid "MMM".

I'm used to working in a team. If I know that we are working for the same result, the principle is very simple - I don’t abandon my people.

Democracy at work is when you enter into dialogue with your subordinates. There is such a type of leader - a fool: when he has made a decision and, even if he is wrong, will still insist on it. I do not support this style of leadership.

Man who came to work is a colleague. And it doesn't matter what gender he is. Everyone is responsible.

I don’t like praise from colleagues. I believe that the result of my work is the company’s performance. Giving praise to your boss is hypocrisy.

Mistakes must be punished. If this is not done, a person can commit them a second time. This is how his psychology works.

I consider the main achievement of our team to be that they did not let the company “drown”. We have restructured our debt obligations. And we managed to save the team. I have always said: the main value of Mosmetrostroy is people.

The profession of a builderis wonderful because you are in the role of a creator. We are one of the few who can show the results of our work years and sometimes even centuries later. There are lines from the song: “Not everyone is given the opportunity to live so generously - to give cities as souvenirs to friends.”

I think the main industry in any country is construction. It is the engine of the entire economy.

At school I always showed leadership qualities. In the fourth grade, I became a squad leader to participate in the formation and song review. Moreover, he was the smallest of all, but walked ahead. Then, having joined the pioneers and going to the camp for the first time, he became chairman of the squad council. At school he was deputy chairman of the squad council.

My dad is a military man, and my first dream is to follow in his footsteps. I was diligently preparing to enter the Ryazan Airborne Military School. But changes took place in the country, and I realized that there was no prospect of serving in the army yet. After ninth grade I planned to enter medical school. And in the end I decided to become a builder.

I came to study in Moscow from the village of Chegdomyn, Khabarovsk Territory, from places where Makar did not drive calves. Can you imagine what was in my head? My dad told me how to get to MIIT to apply. Although there was already the Mendeleevskaya metro station, from which it was ten minutes to the institute, he described a different route - from Komsomolskaya it was about half an hour by tram. I came to the stop and began to wait. There is no tram, I think: I’ll go on foot, I’m used to it at home, on BAM. In the end, I walked for three hours, each time I saw a tram, but for some reason I had already set my goal and got there on my own.

Now Moscow is my favorite city. Her rhythm is crazy, but you can't live without it anymore. As a child, Khabarovsk was the ultimate dream for me. But recently I got there and realized that this is no longer my city.

One of my favorite films is “Officers”, where the hero says: “There is such a profession - to defend the homeland.” And I have one of the main mottos in life: “There is such a profession - to build a homeland.” I also love and have re-read the book “Taras Bulba” many times. The moment when the time for the execution of the eldest son approaches and he shouts: “Dad! Where are you? Can you hear? And Taras, a man of such willpower, answers: “I hear.”

The best place on Earth – our homeland. I have visited many places, including abroad. The last big trip with friends and son was to Lake Baikal. There are few more beautiful places on Earth.

I love hunting and fishing. The farthest place from civilization where I hunted was the Tomsk region, the village of Kargasok, another three hours away by helicopter. In Stalin's times there was a settlement there among the swamps. There's no way out of there. The main advantage of this place is the lack of mobile communications.

Before I was collecting: stamps, badges. My son and I are also collecting football tickets. I am a fan of the professional football club CSKA. I went to football for the first time in Moscow in 1992: CSKA played with Spartak. I still have my ticket for the match. When a whole bunch of them accumulated, we decided to make an album.

Favorite metro station – “Troparevo”. She was the first in my career as the head of Mosmetrostroy. Even now I live next to her. It's a single-vaulted station, you walk in there and feel the space. A strong impression is made by colossal structures in the form of trees, recreating the image of Troparevsky Park.
