At the State Memorial Museum of the Defense and Siege of Leningrad, on July 30, a solemn ceremony was held to donate to the museum an artistic portrait of the Hero of Socialist Labor, the first director of the Leningrad Metrostroy, Ivan Zubkov, who celebrated his 120th birthday this year.

In 1941, Zubkov led the construction of the first stage of the Leningrad metro. In wartime conditions, he supervised the construction of the Road of Life and the Road of Victory. Residents of the blockaded city called Ivan Georgievich “the savior of Leningrad.”

The portrait of the hero was donated to the museum by the Northern Capital Metrostroy company. Its author is the artist Nurimov Sabit, a member of the Union of Artists of Russia. The portrait was painted specifically for the “Gallery of Heroes”, which is being created in the museum to preserve the memory of participants in the Leningrad victory.

Guests from Moscow came to express their respect to the museum, which immortalized the memory of the hero of the blockade highway - the Chairman of the Terkom of the Mosmetrostroy Workers' Trade Union, Sergei Steshenko, and the head of the Mosmetrostroy press service, Svetlana Generalova. They presented the director of the museum, Elena Lezik, with a letter of gratitude and a set of anniversary medals of the Moscow Metrostroy. It was during the construction of the first stage of the Moscow metro that the talented civil engineer Ivan Zubkov began his ascent to professional Olympus, who, before moving to Leningrad, went from shift supervisor to mine manager.

In September, a historical and documentary exhibition dedicated to the talented Soviet engineer will be presented at one of the sites of the Central Museum of Railway Transport of Russia in St. Petersburg. At the same time, an exhibition about Zubkov will open in Moscow at the Mosmetrostroy Museum.
