Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin launched the construction of the Dostoevskaya station (formerly Suvorovskaya) of the Circle metro line. It will be located between the Prospekt Mira and Novoslobodskaya stations. Construction will take about five years.

In March of this year, the Circle Line of the metro celebrated 70 years after its commissioning. Dostoevskaya will be the first station built on the Koltsevaya after the line is fully launched. It will be built following numerous requests from Muscovites.

–This construction has a long historical period. At different periods of time, people came here to connect two of the busiest metro lines – Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya and Koltsevaya, which are used by about 2 million people per day,” said Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. – The connection is important, necessary for passengers, but the implementation of the project is extremely difficult. It is necessary to build spare tunnels through which trains will travel along the Koltsevaya, build a station on the Koltsevaya and make a transfer to the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line. All this must be built underground, almost manually. Nevertheless, we decided on this project, and from that day on, active work resumed. I hope this historic construction will end in success.

Deputy General Director of Mosmetrostroy Oleg Melnikov explained that the construction of the Dostoevskaya station on the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line began in the late 1980s. The Dostoevskaya station will be located at a depth of 42 meters in close proximity to two subway lines. This explains the complexity of its construction - the main work will be carried out manually.

–The use of tunnel boring shields is not provided here. For excavation we use the drilling and blasting method, and in the technical zone of the metro we use only manual labor with jackhammers, so as not to disturb the structure of existing tunnels,” noted Oleg Melnikov. – The primary task is the construction of bypass tunnels through which the movement of Circle Line trains will be restarted.

Previously, approach workings were built for the construction of the Dostoevskaya Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line. Today they are used for the construction of the Circle Line station of the same name. In total, it is necessary to construct about 6.5 km of approach mine workings. After the construction of the bypass tunnels and the restart of traffic along the Circle Line, they will immediately begin the construction of the station complex with a transfer to the Dostoevskaya light green line. The last stage includes an underground passage to the Olimpiysky sports complex.

Travellators in the metro

“Dostoevskaya” is designed with two lobbies: underground and above ground. The underground one will be located under Durova Street, at the intersection with Delegatskaya Street, and the above-ground one will be located next to the reconstructed Olimpiysky complex.

Passengers will get to the platform via escalators, and the first 350-meter pedestrian crossing with travelators in the capital's metro will also appear here. It will connect the station with the ground concourse at the intersection of Durova Street and Olimpiysky Prospekt. Thanks to this, the distance from the metro to the Olimpiysky complex will be reduced from ten to one minute.

With the opening of Dostoevskaya, hundreds of thousands of passengers of the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line will be able to choose more convenient travel options, the Prospect Mira stations of the Circle and Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya lines will be unloaded, and the load on the only transfer between the Circle and Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya lines at the Kurskaya and Chkalovskaya stations will be reduced.
