The seventh of December became a truly outstanding event in the history of Moscow metro construction. Ten stations of the Big Ring were opened for passengers at the same time! Among them is the updated Kakhovskaya station.

The large ring metro line has not yet “closed”, but has become 20 kilometers closer to it. Now trains “fly” underground from “Savelovskaya” to “Kakhovskaya”. Out of 22 stations, ten were launched at once - the capital’s subway has not remembered such a record for almost eight decades.
The movement was launched via video link by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He called the event a historical milestone and thanked the builders for the colossal work they have carried out for several years in a row. Its results became clear to passengers immediately: the nine stations built and one reconstructed are unique structures.
“Such high rates of development must be maintained in the future,” Vladimir Putin instructed Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and the capital’s builders.
The mayor noted that work on the Big Ring is progressing at a good pace, and this mega-project is planned to be completed in 2023. He called its important feature the integration of the BCL with other transport systems of the capital - the Moscow Central Diameters, radial directions of the city subway and the Moscow Central Circle. Of the ten stations being commissioned, seven are transfer stations.
Metro construction workers took part in the reconstruction of Kakhovskaya. Just a few years ago, the station, like its “neighbors” – “Varshavskaya” and “Kashirskaya”, belonged to the shortest line of the Moscow metro. They decided to update them after half a century of operation, modernize and integrate them into the future record holder - the Big Ring.
A huge amount of work has been carried out to reconstruct Kakhovskaya - its engineering systems, tunnels, platforms, track walls, interior spaces and vestibules. The historical appearance of the station was preserved, using a similar color scheme and leaving restored panels with scenes from the Civil War in their places.
The builders have another year ahead to complete the most complex work at Varshavskaya and Kashirskaya and launch them as part of the BCL.
