The first stage of construction of the “Cortanovci” tunnels has been completed

In the Republic of Serbia, specialists from MMS International LLC together with Russian Railways International LLC continue to implement one of the most ambitious projects in the eastern part of Europe - the construction of a high-speed railway that will connect two capitals - Belgrade and Budapest.

The guests witnessed the failure of the left tunnel in real time. The tunnels will become part of a modern railway route. The train speed will be 200 km/h.

Metro builders on the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad section in the Chortanovtsi area made another production breakthrough. On June 5, a breakdown took place along the calotte part of the left tunnel with a length of 1156 meters.

MEETING UNDERGROUND

The change was made from the northern portal towards the southern one. The builders broke up the last meters of soil with a hydraulic hammer and cleared the opening. Here they were met by high-ranking guests who arrived from the southern portal of the tunnel.

Among them are the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia Zorana Mihailovich, as well as the acting General Director of Serbian Railway Infrastructure JSC Shurlan Nebojsa, the Chairman of the Government of the Vojvodina region Igor Mirovich, the Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Serbia Andrey Khripunov and the director of the branch of Russian Railways International LLC in Serbia Mansurbek Sultanov.

Zorana Mihajlovic noted the professionalism of the team of Russian and Serbian builders, who, even during the pandemic, worked in three shifts in compliance with safety measures. The minister has no doubt that already in the fall of next year it will be possible to travel from Belgrade to Novi Sad in 30 minutes on the new high-speed railway.

WE GO ON SCHEDULE

– Despite the difficulties and complex geology, we are going according to schedule. After the demolition, which completed the first phase of construction of the left tunnel, and the final excavation of the soil, work will continue on the construction of a concrete slab of the reverse vault and a permanent lining of the tunnel, noted Andrei Lojko, deputy director of the MMC International Belgrade branch.

In the right tunnel, which was completed on April 3 of this year, the concrete slab of the reverse vault will be ready by mid-June. The builders continued the construction of the permanent lining. Complete work on the construction of permanent lining in both tunnels will be completed by the end of October. At that time, work on the construction of the track's superstructure will begin.

The route passes through difficult mining and geological conditions with landslide zones and unstable water-logged soils. Before construction, the pre-ground mass of the portals was strengthened with a cascade of supporting structures made of bored piles, united by grillages. The total length of the tunnels under construction in single-track terms is more than 2 km. The excavation of two tunnels was completed in exactly two years.

HELPED A SERBIAN SCHOOL

Before the disruption, a delegation led by Construction Minister Zorana Mihailovic visited the primary school named after the Serbian writer Jovan Dučić in the city of Petrovaradin. Metro construction workers from MMC International carried out the reconstruction of the school's gym here. The major renovation included updating the floor: sanding the parquet, painting the walls and ceilings. We repaired the basketball backboards, installed new markings, replaced the lighting, updated the stationary equipment and completely replaced the equipment for sports games.

The school director gave the guests a tour and thanked the builders for their participation in the social event. RZD International LLC also contributed by renovating the computer class.
