The excavation will begin from two portals

In Primorye, metro builders, as part of a joint project with JSC Russian Railways, launched large-scale construction at the project “Bypassing the Shkotovo – Smolyaninovo section” in order to expand the capacity of the Far Eastern Railway. At the end of May, the management of our company visited the site, assessing the preparation of construction sites for the start of tunneling.

Since the spring of 2021, MMC International specialists have been working to develop construction sites and carry out a set of priority and preparatory work at the site.

To date, access roads have been built, communications have been removed from the construction zone, pits have been constructed in areas of the open method for constructing tunnels of the Eastern Portal. Excavation and piling work is being carried out on the Western Portal, temporary buildings and structures are being erected in parallel, and temporary utility networks are being laid.

Ahead of the specialists of the Moscow Metro Construction is the excavation of two single-track tunnels with a length of 1450 linear meters. and 1420 l.m. mountain way.

“The construction of an electrified double-track railway bypass Shkotovo – Smolyaninovo with a length of more than 8 km will allow reducing the longitudinal slope of the route on the stretch from 24‰ to 9‰, thereby eliminating the pushing section, unifying the traction rolling stock of the Shkotovo – Smolyaninovo stretch of the Far Eastern Railway,” noted the General Director of Mosmetrostroy JSC Sergey Zhukov.

Tunneling is planned to be carried out simultaneously from the western and eastern portals from four faces. The necessary machinery and equipment have already been delivered from Moscow and Serbia. The route of future tunnels runs through unstable, water-logged soils.

To ensure safe excavation, the project provides for the installation of a leading protective screen and the use of special methods to stabilize the rock during excavation.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024.

HELP

The project “Bypassing the Shkotovo – Smolyaninovo section of the Far Eastern Railway” is part of the large-scale government program “Trans-Siberian in seven days”, the goal of which is to increase the speed of cargo transportation from Far Eastern ports.

Smolyaninovo station is one of the key links in the transportation of foreign trade goods through the ports of the Nakhodka transport hub.

Putting the bypass into operation will allow us to abandon the difficult-to-travel section of the railway. Reducing the height difference and leveling the profile of the new track will help increase capacity in the direction of the Nakhodka ports from 65 to 72 pairs of trains per day.
