In May, the excavation of the left-hand tunnel from the new Teatralnaya station to the dead ends of the existing Alabinskaya station of the Samara Metro started. The work is being carried out by Tunnel Squad-6.
The stretch "Alabinskaya" - "Teatralnaya" will be one of the longest in the Samara metro with a length of 1600 meters. The metro will come to the historical center of Samara - "Teatralnaya" will be the 11th, final station and will complete the first line of the local subway.
–The unique experience and professional competencies of Moscow metro builders are in demand outside the capital. The tunneling is carried out in a closed manner using a Herrenknecht S-755 mechanized tunnel boring complex (TBMC), which is named “Samara”. Previously, this TBM built tunnels on the Sokolnicheskaya, Solntsevskaya and Big Circle lines of the Moscow Metro,” said Sergei Zhukov, General Director of Mosmetrostroy JSC.
The tunnel-boring complex was installed in the starting pit on Galaktionovskaya Street, from where it began moving towards Alabinskaya.
–On the first day after Easter Sunday, we, together with specialists from Mosmetrostroy, launched the Samara tunnel boring shield. I am confident that, taking into account our joint experience in constructing similar facilities and with God’s help, we will succeed,” said Vyacheslav Sonin, General Director of Volgatransstroy JSC.
At a depth of 28 meters
The mechanic of the TO-6 section, Yuri Slutsky, participated in the construction of 13 Moscow metro tunnels, the left running tunnel in the Samara metro is the 14th for him.
–We have been in Samara since March last year. The excavation was postponed due to reasons beyond our control. Finally, on May 6, the shield began to move forward, he told a Metrostroevets correspondent.
Construction of the left tunnel is expected to take eight months. The penetration rate will be 50-100 meters in the first two months, then 250 meters per month.
–After we make the insertion and go through the secant piles, we will need to change the cutting tool, explains Slutsky. – To do this, we will go into the rotor chamber, where we will dismantle the cutters and install the cutters. Almost immediately after the start, the tunnel route goes down. The lowest point is 28 meters, then from this lowest point the TBM will go up to the dismantling chamber on Polevaya Street. The geology here is sandy loam, loam, sand. The route is difficult - a small radius of the curve and a large slope.
As of the end of May, 58 of the 1,138 rings of the left tunnel had been installed. According to the schedule, it is planned to complete the excavation of the LPT at the end of this year. After this, at the intersection of Novo-Sadovaya and Polevaya streets, the shield will be reinstalled; this will take about forty days, and the TBM will begin excavating the right tunnel from the Alabinskaya dead-end to the Teatralnaya station. That's another eight months of work.
