1.5 million trips were made by city residents through the stations of the Avtozavodskaya – Orekhovo section in the week after the opening.
On May 10, traffic opened on the section between the Avtozavodskaya and Orekhovo stations of the Zamoskvoretskaya metro line. Mosmetrostroy managed to carry out large-scale work at a record pace and within the promised time frame.
In November last year, the site had to be closed due to its accident rate and unsafe further operation.
“We made this difficult decision after careful research. The tunnels were initially built with poor quality waterproofing and needed to be completely replaced,” commented Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
On the Tsaritsyno-Kantemirovskaya stretch, 270 meters of tunnels were rebuilt, track walls and crossings were repaired, new tracks were laid, reducing the noise level by 30%. As a result, passengers were able to return to their usual routes, began to more actively use the transfer to the BKL at the Kashirskaya station and began to spend less time on the road.
“There are many underground rivers in this area, so the tunnels began to “float” and the integrity of the structures was damaged,” said Sergei Zhukov, General Director of Mosmetrostroy JSC. – Due to the large influx of water during restoration work, a classic water reduction system was used. In six months, new tunnels were built almost from scratch, the upper structure of the track was restored, and train traffic was launched. We did not experience any particular difficulties during the repair.
The most labor-intensive section on the stretch between Tsaritsyno and Kantemirovskaya was entrusted to the specialists of SMU-6.
– Our SMU was directly involved in securing the foundation pit during its excavation, dismantling old tunnels and installing new ones. When we arrived at the site, there were numerous cracks and water leaks. Rivers of sand flowed through drainages. The Metro periodically cleaned it out and brought it to the surface in bags,” recalls the head of the SMU-6 section, Artem Vorontsov. – About a thousand people from different organizations were involved in the site. Almost the entire Mosmetrostroy participated in this construction.
The mechanic of the SMU-6 section, Sergey Popkov, was involved in all metal structures, including fastening the pit, installing tubing and utilities.
– When we entered the facility, along the right tunnel there were broken, cracked tubes, from which a lot of water was flowing. Water was also flowing along the concrete part. Everything was covered with sand. We prepared to dismantle the tunnels, opened them, securing the foundation pit. All the tunnels were completely dismantled, the base slab was concreted, and new ones began to be assembled on metal supports. After that, waterproofing was done and the tunnels were concreted,” Popkov said.
Now on the Tsaritsyno - Kantemirovskaya section there are bright, dry tunnels with new utilities, track concrete and rails. The work of the builders was highly appreciated by the head of the Moscow Metro, Viktor Kozlovsky, who noted that the work on bulkheading the tunnels was carried out for the first time in the capital’s subway. The safety and manufacturability of the updated site are ensured for many decades to come.
In addition, at the Kolomenskaya station, builders updated the track walls, columns, vaults and platforms. The Tsaritsyno and Kantemirovskaya stations were renovated into street crossings, and an additional exit was opened from the southern vestibule of the Tsaritsyno station, which had been closed for almost 40 years.
Landscaping in the Tsaritsyno metro area will be completed by the end of July. There will be children's and sports grounds, pedestrian paths with pergolas, and trees and shrubs will be planted.

For the successful completion of a set of works on the restoration of the Tsaritsyno - Kantemirovskaya section, the team of Mosmetrostroy JSC, as well as particularly distinguished employees of Moscow Metrostroy organizations, were awarded a letter of gratitude from Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin:
