The most inspiring thing is the ability to find a compromise

Pavel Khvatov is confident that a manager must resolve a variety of issues: from adjusting the progress of work directly on the construction site to distributing priorities in the work of personnel. Every day presents tasks of varying complexity, skillfully solving which is the task of a good manager. A Metrostroevets correspondent found out how the working day of the general director of SMU-25 is organized.

The problem of time for a manager is always very acute. Therefore, his working day begins much earlier than that of ordinary employees. Pavel Khvatov resolves production issues already at the exit from home and on the way to the office. Every day at eight o'clock in the morning the company holds an operational meeting to discuss current affairs at construction sites. By the way, there are a lot of them around the city.

Today, SMU-25 teams are involved in the construction of a new section of the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya line from Yakhromskaya to Fiztekh, a city parking lot near the Elektrozavodskaya station of the Big Ring, as well as in the reconstruction of Kashirskaya, which has now become part of the southern section of the BCL. And, as often happens, all of them require the personal presence of the manager. Khvatov takes part in meetings three times a week, which are held at construction headquarters together with representatives of the customer and with all performers. They often bring up production issues in real time and discuss ways to solve them.

— The ability to negotiate and make concessions to each other are necessary components when creating new objects in a metropolis. Calculated compromise is sometimes the most inspiring, he says. “This is especially true for the transfer and installation of utilities, on the reliability of which the supply of stations and its systems with the necessary energy resources depends. Sometimes other contractors give us space on site. This way we fulfill our volume more quickly.

The focus is on quality. Because the requirements set by the general contractor are always high, and the deadlines are tight. Not everyone can withstand such a pace. Fortunately, in recent years, SMU-25 has formed a strong, well-coordinated team capable of coping with such tasks.

After making rounds at construction sites, Pavel Khvatov returns to the office, which some time ago changed its location - from the headquarters near Petrovsko-Razumovskaya to the premises of the modular building of the construction site of the Aviamotornaya station. This required certain organizational efforts: who and how to accommodate, making sure that everyone was comfortable. The housewarming party was complemented by the onset of a “hot” time for builders - in winter, when there is a lot of paper work to be completed.

“After the inspections, I sort out contracts, sign those that cannot be delegated to deputies,” says Khvatov, adding to the list of his responsibilities: “I distribute the workload of construction sites between objects, participate in the delivery of work, set priorities in the activities of departments directly subordinate to the director. These are the legal and tender departments. In turn, the core of my deputies, the chief engineer, work with people on the ground.

Despite all the difficulties and a long working day that can last late into the night, Pavel Khvatov calls the main pleasure the process of creation itself, when several years pass from the first projects on a computer and on paper to the finished station. And during this time, the team goes a long way, and Muscovites receive a new point in the transport framework. Great pride in the work done covers not only the leader, but also the entire team he leads, as well as like-minded people with whom he had to work shoulder to shoulder over the years.

— This is how we all together develop Moscow’s transport infrastructure, making the capital the best in the world. Our team is ready to quickly complete previously started projects and participate in new ones, creating unique metro stations, which have practically no equal in the world,” he sums up.
