We continue the “Keyhole” section. In it, an MS correspondent spends one day with a builder, “spying” on his work. This time the heroine of the column was the replacement surveyor from TO-6 Antonina Basovskaya. She told how she learned to work on equal terms in a male team.
Antonina Basovskaya’s workplace has been located at site No. 5.2 next to Elektrozavodskaya for a year now. The girl works as a shift surveyor at the construction of the Rubtsovskaya station. The night before, Antonina’s department was tasked with removing the edges of a brick wall and the elevations of a finished floor in one of the rooms above the convention chamber.
In the morning, Antonina takes a suitcase with a tool and goes to her destination. Flying up the stairs, she excitedly talks about her work. And she herself is surprised at her former confidence that she would never go down the mine.
– During my studies, I didn’t like surveying. I completed assignments on it so that I would not get bad grades. In my fifth year, a friend who worked at SMU-6 invited me to work with them. After working for a week on the construction of Fonvizinskaya, I radically changed my mind. I was so fascinated by the process that I began to live by work: I worked outside of school hours, replaced those who were sick, read and studied a lot,” Tonya shares, setting up the tacheometer.
For the instilled love for the profession, she thanks her teachers - Roman Vorganov from SMU-6 and Vladimir Sharafov from SMU-3.
The electronic total station is adjusted to your height and the focus is adjusted. The equipment is expensive, it is stored in a safe, and a survey worker monitors the cleanliness and safety of the device. Basovskaya once started with this position at SMU-6.
A level and a staff are also used for measurements. The surveyor's suitcase will contain a tape measure, a ruler, chalk and paint for marking axes and elevation marks. But today there is no need to paint - there is water everywhere. In this case, dowels are used.
After installing the tacheometer on a tripod, it is oriented in accordance with the marks attached to the walls, associated with the geodetic grid of the city. The device already has base points driven in, from which marks are taken from the design drawings.
A total station is a geodetic instrument that combines a theodolite and a range finder. It is used to measure angles and distances, to determine the coordinates of terrain points, to obtain a plan depicting the relief during topographic surveys, etc. There is a microprocessor inside the device that stores and processes large amounts of information.
Mine surveyors ensure that all structures are correctly aligned in plan and height. So that the tunnel reaches its destination without deviating from the course. So that the rails lie level and the train does not go off the tracks.
– Working with instruments is not the most difficult thing for a surveyor; it is more important to understand diagrams and drawings. The most important thing is the ability to make responsible decisions, says Antonina. – For example, while excavation is underway, you take the radii of the ring and see deviations from the project. In this case, drilling and blasting operations must be suspended until the geometry of the ring is corrected.
Having collected her tools, Antonina returns to the surface. She will take the next measurements here when the workers have already erected the wall.
Higher level they knit reinforcement. Afterwards the formwork will be put up. At each stage, surveyors take measurements. After removing the formwork, the concrete wall is checked every meter. Permissible deviations here are up to 5 mm.
Mine surveyors have even more paperwork. An executive diagram is made for the finished structure, be it a floor or walls. The master signs the hidden work certificates. These documents are formed into folders, which are then stored in the archive.
Once in the men's team, Antonina decided: here she is, first and foremost, a surveyor. But practice has shown that even on a construction site you can remain a woman.
– Men at a construction site are very impulsive, they can say strong words and make people blush with jokes. At first I was very worried. Then a senior colleague advised me not to react, and over time, communication improved. Now men will always help, give a hand and carry a suitcase with tools.
The work of a surveyor requires good physical fitness and one hundred percent vision. The loads can be heavy, but Antonina is not afraid of this. During her five-year career at Mosmetrostroy, she managed to participate in the construction of Fonvizinskaya, the stage between Petrovsko-Razumovskaya and Fonvizinskaya, Okruzhnaya and Verkhnikh Likhobor.
– In general, I am a humanitarian at heart, but I overcame myself by choosing a serious engineering profession. It's interesting to see how things change. A year ago there was only a pit here, but now there are several floors and a conference chamber. There is pride in the results achieved.
