Lyubov Chashkina from SMU-24 takes part in the reconstruction of two stations of the former Kakhovskaya line - “Varshavskaya” and “Kashirskaya”. A Metrostroevets correspondent spent one day with an electrical installer and tells her story in the traditional “Keyhole” section.

The morning before the working day for Lyubov Chashkina begins early. It takes from one and a half to two hours to get to the site on Chongarsky Boulevard from home. She takes her place at 7.30-7.45. A cup of coffee, and Lyubov begins her duties.
Having changed into overalls, Lyubov picks up her suitcase, which contains tools. The most important thing is that you have the necessary screwdrivers at hand: Phillips, slotted, electrical tape, as well as pliers, duckbills, cutting mounting knives necessary for stripping cables, digital multimeters for checking voltage.
Cables are already laid in special cabinets before her arrival.
“The cabinets and the cables inside them have different purposes,” she explains. - There is for central power supply, alarm system, lighting circuit, including emergency lighting, for controlling ventilation and other engineering systems in the underground. If you remember your physics course, then it’s easy to understand that there are different types of electrical circuits to supply voltage.
People of our specialty should know all of them. Lyubov rewrites the cable numbers, assigning each a tag - an individual number, after which he ties it and strips it of the top sheath. There are several veins in the cable. Next, you need to make a sleeve on the cable and assign tags to the cores. Each core has its own seat.
– It is indicated on the wiring diagram. After that, I write tags on the cambric,” she describes her actions. – Tags are placed on each core, regardless of how many there are in the wire: three or 27.
The veins unwind and align. Then they need to be put into bundles and the last step is switching the entire system. Then the cable is laid out, connected for testing and all the wires are tied up, being neatly laid out in the closet.
To help the electrician, there is a diagram that allows you to outline all the actions and present the result of your work. “A plan of action immediately appears in my head. It won't be possible to work without it.
It’s like approaching a huge snowy mountain with a shovel and deciding to dig it up,” Lyubov Chashkina describes the work process in this way. – Everywhere needs its own arrangement. She admits that she loves her work and always wants to do it not only efficiently, but also beautifully. After she finishes, the adjusters come to replace her. Each time they note that they are pleased with such accuracy.
– At each substation, in each cabinet, the actions are the same: cutting of cables, wrapping them, switching to the core receiving locations. But different types of currents pass everywhere, and this determines my actions,” she adds.
Now at the site where Lyubov works, distribution cabinets and special cells have been brought. Its main task is to connect different types of cables, taking into account the circuits. They will have to be connected to each other. After this, it will be the turn of the cables, and they will need to be connected according to the diagram described above.
The company on Lyubov Chashkina’s shift consists of people of different specialties: welders, adjusters and others. The team, according to her, is very responsive and is always ready to help if necessary.
– However, I have only one partner, but we almost always work separately. Only large volumes bring us together on one site,” she says.
Most often, she and her partner have to travel to different objects; they don’t stay at one for long.
“Despite the difficulties, I am still delighted with the construction of metro stations,” admits Lyubov Chashkina.
– I admire the work of the metro construction workers, our entire larger team. The work is not easy: dust, cold, inconvenience, but our result pleases millions of people after the launch of the stations.
After work, there is very little time left for household chores. He devotes his weekends to his family: his adult daughter, son-in-law and their son. It’s a pleasure for everyone to take a walk in the park or get out into nature outside the city. If he sees that some familiar electrical appliance is broken, he will fix it.
“You don’t need to ask me, I see everything myself and try to quickly fix problems,” she says. – I’m on first-name terms with electricity.
