Heating engineer at the Municipal Construction Department of Mosmetrostroy (KSUM) Denis Vdovenko loves his job and dreams of returning to it. And now he is defending the borders of our country in Donbass.
– In my family on my father’s side, everyone is military. Great-grandfather - bomber pilot, Hero of the Soviet Union. A monument was erected to his crew in Dnepropetrovsk, where they died. My grandfather is also a pilot; after leaving the army, he worked in civil aviation. Therefore, my fate was to some extent predetermined. I entered the aviation school, but they didn’t accept me due to my health, so I ended up becoming an artilleryman,” says Denis.
After graduating from the Penza Artillery Engineering School, Vdovenko served in the Far East, his last position being the head of service of a separate artillery brigade. The total length of military service is more than 12 years.
After being transferred to the reserve, Denis came to Moscow, and in 2012 a new story began in his life - Metrostroyevskaya. At first, he worked as a security guard in a hostel on Nizhnyaya Pervomaiskaya Street, where he committed, as the management of KSUM believes, a heroic act, neutralizing a tipsy tenant with a knife. Since 2021, Vdovenko has been appointed engineer.
– The work consists of operating and repairing engineering systems and elevator equipment at KSUM facilities, which are five residential buildings, including a 22-story building, the largest workers’ dormitory in Moscow. I like the work, the team is good, everyone is responsive,” he says.
Captain Denis Vdovenko was mobilized in October 2022. Of the 65 metro builders called upon to defend the borders of our country, he is the most experienced, commanding a separate anti-tank artillery division.
– The guys from our division are grateful to Moscow Metrostroy for their support. We have already received a thermal imager, four night vision devices, household and food products. By the way, binoculars came in handy when an enemy tank was shot down. Now Metrostroy has collected a second batch of aid - various technical equipment, camouflage nets and humanitarian cargo, everything has been transferred to the positions. And just in time - active hostilities began.
Denis dreams of serving as he should, returning home and to his native team with a victory.
