Builders as doctors: the main principle is to do no harm

We continue the “Keyhole” section. In it, an MS correspondent spends one day with a builder, “spying” on his work. This time the hero of the column was the mining master of Tunnel-2001 LLC, Vladimir Dragunov. He talked about saving tunnels from water and explained how the professions of a builder and a doctor are similar.

Early on a cloudy morning we go to construction site No. 4, on the site of which the station of the north-eastern section of the Big Circle Line (BCL) “Lefortovo” will appear. On the way to the office of the head of section No. 2 of Tunnel 2001 LLC, Valery Borodulin, we meet a group of students. Despite the gloomy sky, the guys are waiting for the upcoming excursion with smiles.

SEVEN TUNNELS HAVE BEEN PASSED

In the office, mining master Vladimir Dragunov is already waiting for us. As part of section No. 2, he is engaged in tunneling and subsequent preparation for delivery.

– It is necessary to pour a rigid base and install the superstructure of the track (VSP). Then the tunnels are transferred for the laying of utilities, explains the specialist.

Since September 2013, section No. 2 of Tunnel-2001 has been specializing in tunneling work. During this time, the builders, under the leadership of Borodulin, passed through seven tunnels. Three of them are on the north-eastern section of the Big Line, in the area of the future Lefortovo station.

Two tunnels have already been built from the assembly chamber on site 5.2: for de-training and the right tunnel to Lefortovo, where Dragunov’s team works. The excavation of another tunnel leading to Aviamotornaya is about to be completed. A tunnel-boring mechanized complex (TMC) with the name “Lyubov” stands five meters from the exit, awaiting the end of the work on dewatering.

On the way to site 5.2, from where we will go underground, Vladimir Andreevich explains that while concrete work is going on in the tunnel, the matter has not yet reached engineering.

– The principle of doctors is “do no harm”, it’s probably for everyone relevant. Because if you hurry, you can cause so much trouble in just a few days,” the worker shares.

In the pit of site 5.2 there is an installation chamber, from which two TBMs came out towards “Rubtsovskaya” and three towards “Lefortovo”. The launch of five panels from one chamber is a unique case in the history of the Moscow metro construction.

– To bring the structure into proper shape, the first stage is to lay a rigid base - the bottom is completely concreted, adds Dragunov, walking along the right-hand running tunnel. – In order to concrete it, it is necessary to remove the leaks that still remain after excavation. All this is washed and cleaned. Then we eliminate the remaining shortcomings and show the tunnel to the commission. The lower part of the track is ready.

Next - laying the upper structure of the track. It will still be polished.

– Later, when everything is ready, they will start the engineering departments: builders will install brackets, hang cables, install water supply and fire safety systems, the mining foreman describes the next stage of work.

YOU CAN’T ARRAY WITH GEOLOGY

Although the entire distillation tunnel is practically dry, in the area There was a problem with the ventilation chamber and there was still a problem area. We stop opposite the junction of the rings and see a stream of water flowing down from above.

– To remove it, we need to caulk all the seams. To do this, we use a special composition called Waterplug. It is mixed with water and clogged into the openings, says Dragunov.

The master shows a composition similar to cement, but with special properties.

– It hardens in the seams and then, like a filling, holds the water, preventing it from escaping. The seams are caulked, a hole is drilled into them, packers are inserted through which polyurethane resin is injected. This is how the tunnel opening is sealed, explains Dragunov.

It will take the foreman’s team at least two days to stop the flow of water. The main problem in the section from the installation chamber to Lefortovo is severe water content.

– You see, the walls are all wet, everything is running, when the concrete work began, everything was floating in the water. There is too much water in the soil: it is both difficult to excavate through it and to maintain the lining. It is necessary to carry out additional measures - lowering water somewhere, freezing in some place. But all difficulties can be solved. This is geology - you can’t argue with it,” smiles Dragunov.

MEN’S WORK

To rise to the surface, we make our way through the break into the future ventilation chamber. Then we head to the drainage plant. There is a sump here - a huge container for collecting water, which will be pumped out after the construction of the station is completed. At the exit from site No. 5, it begins to rain.

– Oh, where was he three weeks ago, when I went to the dacha! - exclaims the master, complaining about the strawberries being too small due to rare rainfall.

Vladimir Andreevich has been at Mosmetrostroy since 2003. At first he worked as part of Tunnel Detachment No. 6, then he came to work as a mining foreman in Tunnel-2001. Dragunov's father was a miner. The son’s choice also fell on a profession related to underground work. In 1976, Vladimir Andreevich graduated from a mining college in the Kemerovo region with a degree in Construction of Mining Enterprises and went to Yakutia to build a railway tunnel. He also worked on the construction of the BAM in Buryatia. In 1995 he graduated from the Mining Institute in Moscow, in 2006 he went to Turkey to dig a hydraulic tunnel under the Bosphorus.

– That is, I have been in the same system since 1976. I don't know any other profession. Normal men's work. Maybe there are more beautiful ones – catching butterflies, but I like this one,” admits Dragunov. – You probably love your job when you know how to do it and are not afraid to do it. The team is wonderful and well-worked. Together for many years.
