Portraits of metro builders from the 1930s were used in the design of the Sokolniki metro station on the Big Circle Line (BKL) of the metro, said Deputy Mayor of Moscow for urban planning policy and construction Andrei Bochkarev.

“The decorative and artistic design of the Sokolniki BKL station will be dedicated to the construction of the first metropolitan subway stations: fragments of posters of those years will be placed on the reflective ceiling panels. In addition, portraits of real metro construction workers were used in the interior,” said Andrey Bochkarev.

The deputy mayor noted that the faces of Moscow metro construction workers are depicted on the track walls of the station:

  • Tatyana Fedorova - the first and only woman to head the mine;
  • Nikolai Kraevsky, awarded the Order of Lenin for high excavation rates;
  • Ivan Filimonov - the first to use the “Moscow” method of excavating shallow tunnels.

The head of the Construction Complex added that gray marble, gray and black granite are used in the decoration of the station.

“The suspended ceiling is made of aluminum three-layer panels and slatted structures, and the lamp parts, barriers, fences and handrails are made of stainless steel,” Bochkarev explained.

General Director of Mosmetrostroy JSC Sergei Zhukov recalled that the Sokolniki BKL is located at the main entrance to the park of the same name - on Sokolnicheskaya Square between Rusakovskaya and Sokolnichesky Val streets.

“This is a column-type station, it is located at a depth of about 30 meters. Construction was carried out in dense urban areas with a large number of underground utility networks,” explained Sergei Zhukov.

According to the general director of the company, the new station has two vestibules, through which passengers will be able to transfer to the station of the same name on the Sokolnicheskaya Line or go to Pesochny and Sokolnichesky lanes, Sokolniki Park and Rusakovskaya Street.
