06/26/2024

On June 25, the exhibition “Metrostroy. War. Blockade. The story of one fate", prepared by Rossiyskaya Gazeta together with Moscow Metrostroy.

The main character of the exhibition was Pavel Vasilyevich Tyumenev, the designer of the first Soviet escalators for the metro, who, by the will of fate, ended up in Berlin on June 22, 1941, went through the Dachau concentration camp, the siege of Leningrad and participated in the construction of the Moscow and Leningrad metro.

– The other day the Mosmetrostroy Museum turned four years old - it was opened on June 23, 2020. Coincidentally, we will celebrate our birthday with a new exhibition from St. Petersburg dedicated to Leningrader Pavel Tyumenev,” noted the General Director of JSC MosmetrostroySergey Zhukov. – The Leningrad plant “Red Metallist”, where Tyumenev worked, was a reliable supplier of escalators and escalator equipment for the first stages of the Moscow metro. I am sure that the exhibition will be of interest to citizens and guests of the capital, and for the younger generation, the story of the fate of the famous designer is a good example to follow.

Pavel Tyumenev left meticulous memories - of his business trip to Germany, of his stay in a concentration camp and return to his homeland, of the blockade and evacuation along the Road of Life, of his work on the construction of the Moscow and Leningrad metro.

The diaries of Pavel Vasilyevich Tyumenev, carefully preserved by his descendants, formed the basis of the exhibition. The exhibition also presents unique documents, authentic items and photographs of that era.
The exhibition was organized by Rossiyskaya Gazeta, where Pavel Tyumenev’s granddaughter, columnist Tatyana Tyumeneva, works, who spoke about the amazing fate of her grandfather on the pages of the publication.

The exhibition is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade. In St. Petersburg, the exhibition was exhibited in the House of Journalists on Nevsky Prospekt, the Central State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation of St. Petersburg and the Central Museum of Railway Transport of the Russian Federation.

The exhibition will run until August 30, 2024. The museum is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10.30 to 15.00, except holidays. Free admission.
