In December 1931, construction of the first metro in the country began near Sokolniki Park.
This year the domestic metro construction industry turns 95 years old. On October 2, 1931, a structure was created for the construction of the first line of the capital's metro - JSC Mosmetrostroy. By decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin dated January 23, 2023, Metro Builder’s Day was established, which is celebrated annually on October 2, the day of the formation of the Moscow Metro Construction.
“Thanks to the work of metro builders, our capital has one of the largest and most beautiful metro systems in the world. Since 2011, more than 260 kilometers of lines, 127 stations and 14 electric depots of the metro and MCC have been built and reconstructed in Moscow. By 2032, it is planned to actually double the length of the metro compared to 2010: about 80 more kilometers of lines and over 30 stations will appear, which will make travel around the city more convenient for hundreds of thousands of residents,” said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for urban planning policy and constructionVladimir Efimov.
It was in the capital, not far from Sokolniki Park, that construction of the first metro in the country began in December 1931. Today JSC Mosmetrostroy is a leader in metro and tunnel construction and one of the largest construction organizations in Russia. Structurally, the organization is part of the Complex of Urban Development Policy and Construction of the City of Moscow as part of the company Mosinzhproekt JSC. For their services, the team of JSC Mosmetrostroy was awarded four orders - Lenin, October Revolution, Red Banner of Labor and Friendship of Peoples.
“Over its history, the Mosmetrostroy team has built and reconstructed over 200 metro stations in the capital, put into operation more than 600 kilometers of tunnels, over 30 kilometers of road junctions and highways, more than 400 thousand square meters of residential real estate and industrial facilities.
