A 10-Point Plan to Reduce the European Union’s Reliance on Russian Natural Gas
Background information
The International Energy Agency will host a live-streamed launch of its 10-Point Plan to Reduce the European Union’s Reliance on Russian Natural Gas on Thursday, 3 March, at 12:00 (noon) Paris time, with Barbara Pompili, Minister for Ecological Transition of France, which holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union; Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy; and Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the IEA.
Europe’s reliance on imported natural gas from Russia has again been thrown into sharp relief by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The IEA’s new 10-Point Plan will set out a series of measures that could be implemented within a year to reduce Russian natural gas imports while maintaining consistency with the European Green Deal and ensuring energy security and affordability.
During the launch, Dr Birol will present the Plan, and Minister Pompili and Commissioner Simson will provide their responses to it, before they take questions from journalists.
The plan will be published on 3 March 2022, at noon Paris time.
